"MISTER" Steam unit as seen at Warwick.
« on: November 26, 2014, 10:11:52 pm »

Can anyone put me in touch with the chap who was freely demonstrating the home made mist/smoke unit at Warwick show.

My mate and I purchased the components needed from eBay but appears we have the wrong 12v to 24 v gizmos as we can only get it to function on 24v.

If he or anyone can tell me an item no.or a definite spec for that unit we would be very grateful.
Many thanks for demonstrating the unit and sharing the knowledge with us all. It,s appreciated.

Regards, Will. :-)

Hi Will, from what I understood is that the mister unit needs 24v to operate.
I may be wrong if so I will be corrected.

Yes, it needs 24 volts. Marks Model Bits used to do 12 - 24 converters which you could power a foggy with, but if I remember correctly he had a nightmare with the suppliers and consequently they aren't listed on his site any more. I couldn't see many places that did them elsewhere.

Step-up converters are available, just a question of price and weight.  http://www.amazon.com/Converter-Regulator-12v-Step-24v/dp/B0085T97PW  and where in the world they are.

I have 2 Foggy's from MMB.   For the second one, instead of using a 12V ten AA pack + the 12 to 24V converter I used 2 x 12v 2800 mAh ten packs in series.  The extra pack is smaller than the converter, and 360 gm against 140 for the converter so little extra weight.  If using the smaller MMB Foggy you can just about get the unit plus twin battery packs in the same volume as the large Foggy.

The step-up converter that we use is about 60mm long by 15mm x15mm I cant get access to mine at the moment for an accurate measurement but it's there abouts. We also have a new board that allows a puff puff puff action which has I believe 4 "puff speed" settings set by moving a jumper wire, that board is about 40mm sq.

Both these units are small enough to be poked in almost anywhere.

Hi Paul, the puff puff board you have, is it proportional with the esc.
If so where can I get one from?
PM me please.

Anyone tried the little USB misters. Work off 5 volts, so could be powered directly off the receiver bus.

I'm not sure if they have enough output, but they're only a couple of quid on ebay, so perhaps worth an experiment?

I saw one of these working on the counter of our local chemist. It is designed to emit a tiny puff of aromatherapy oil vapor every few seconds. The description "fairy f*rts" springs to mind! Smells nice, though........ %)

Just another suggestion for a smoke generator, have a look at the Wickies website for details of a neat little unit designed by Clive Beard that will fit almost anywhere. He has now sourced a puff puff board referred to further up this page and will post the details on the site when time allows, go to wicksteedparkmbc.com and it's in the Clives's man cave section.

I'll post some pictures of the units in action in a couple of boats in that section over the weekend.
