Plans for classic river lanch
« on: November 27, 2014, 03:29:26 pm »

Hi
Having completed (at last) my first scratchbuilt attempt (see pics) I am looking for my next project and fancy a classic electric river launch. Does anyone know if I can get plans for one.
Initial looks have not produced anything
many thanks

They don't come much more "classic" than this one - shame about the lousy photo, though. http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/product/16968/bluebird-of-chelsea--plan-bm1449
There's a hull available too if you don't fancy plank-on-frame.

Hi,

I've built the Selway Fisher Edwardian Steam Launch ( see thread http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,37563.0.html ).

I purchased the plans for the full sized 30ft boat, plus the strip planking techniques book by Selways. The plans were expensive, but that was before Selways started doing the cut-down versions for modellers. The full size plans certainly contained all the detail, including all the mold board and the strong back diagrams and dimensions.

Many thanks.

Both sites have some good plans of steam launches which is the style I had in mind.

May use the for the hull and modify the superstructure.

Would love to do a steam launch but the engines are just to expensive

Other thought is to work from photo and do small half hull to get frames and then scale them up

Will keep looking and keep you posted.

Or REALLY challenge yourself and design your own using delftship!

Tutorial here:

It is really satisfying to design and build your own! Almost the ultimate scratch build!

Only one step further in scratch building - grow your own wood!
