OK I'm doing it here is the jet engine, I'm ditching the rc, there will be a fair amount of hacking involved but this will look nothing like a flower class corvette when done, I envisage lots of bat wings and stuff.

Hi all well here is a quick mockup of where this is going. The jet engine is very disappointing detail wise I will be adding lots more detail and since this will be sprayed gloss black I will be cutting inspection doors in the outer casing to show the detail I will be adding

Hi all here's the first bit of alterations, not April the 1st this will be based on the real prototype I saw in his batcave in 1960, of course I was only 3 so I may be miss remembering.

At first I thought you might have done it in rust like a cartoon effect square panels riveted on etc or mad max alike. note to self catch up with the rest of the thread before commenting.

Hi all done a bit more.

As you can see there's no real detail to the jet engine, I know it's meant to be an educational toys to teach kids how a jet engine works and to be see through but I fail to see how this teaches anything, no injectors no pipe work for fuel just some blades which spin and some lights, I think Airfix missed a trick here. And for very little work on their part.
I know nothing about jet engines but I know they need injectors to get the fuel where needed and fuel obviously but here is no indication of either here.

Just s bit of gas turbine theory for you

Fuel is injected in to the engine by items called atomisers and vapourisers, atomisers get the engine started then vapourisers keep it going. Gas turbine theory is more simple than piston engines: all you need to remember is suck, squeeze, bang, blow
And there is nothing rude intended by that last bit! {-)
Nice work so far :-))

Hi all some more progress on this.

I've concocted a couple of laser cannons for it, I think they look quite convincing, what do you think.

You might need some ballast in the nose else it might take off but if too much it might become a sub.
Interesting development.

An interesting diversion from your historical projects Ken. Its great to shake off the need to be accurate and just have some fun.

I can't wait to see how you open up and detail the engine.

Hi all here is the next installment

I must say I'm enjoying this very much, freedom from anyone saying "that's wrong" is so liberating and I'm loving the fact I can use my imagination to find stuff for making 60s style futuristic stuff ( I thought at the start of this build that the corvette lent itself to that era, modern stuff would be either squarer or more streamlined)

Hi all, did some more detailing on the jet engine (yes I know all you jet engine enthusiasts out there it looks like no jet engine you ever saw) it's not real and doesn't exist in real life, I love this imaginary stuff, I can do anything.

Hi all well I've finished detailing the jet engine, I was going to make an inspection panel in the casing so you could see the detailing but since it is curved in all directions I couldn't work out how to hinge it so you won't actually see any of it but, hey I know it's there.

Hi all well thanks to a suggestion I'm going to do lift out panels instead of hinged so here's what I have so far.

I was given a kit of HMS Snowberry Flower Class corvette but I think it is a bigger scale than !/72 I can't get out to my workshop at present to check. Does anyone know which makers it would be and is it  likely to be a bigger scale. I have a feeling that the box is about 3 feet long. mind you my memory is not what what it was  :embarrassed:

I like that A pity that "JET" engine isn't an EDF  It would be great to see that fan running to good effect. BTW I got someone to check on Mine IT IS 1/72 scale after all DOH! But I will build as is  and put motors and R/C in her I would like to see action shots of yours on the hydrofoils
    Anyway good luck    John
