Vosper Thornycroft Fire Boat.
« on: January 05, 2015, 01:50:15 pm »

It seems like years since I was last on here, with thing's going on and a slight lack of interest. However I'm still sailing, which leads me to this.
Just before Xmas I was given a hull that I was told a few years back I could have, I was lead to believe that it was the hull for the Spitfire class RTTL; not so.
The hull is 33.5'' long and a beam at the widest point of approx. 10''. I'm getting problem's getting plan's to build the boat. I have tried some of the more well known outlet's for plans but nothing, so HELP please.  :-))

Please post a picture of the hull, it could be a Thornycroft 67ft RAF HSL in 1/24th scale at that length (although it seems too wide).

Recommend John Pritchard plans which are available here;

Not one I recognise, not VT, perhaps a German fireboat design?

it would make a fine stand off scale Thornycroft 67ft HSL hull. See mine below it was made using J Pritchard plans and is quite similar except the transom should be flat and vertical with hard edges, easy enough to remedy with a bit of modification, also the forefoot is a little deeper but I don't think anyone would ever notice;

Your hull is the perfect length for a 1/24th scale model of this boat, and the Pritchard plans are drawn to that scale.

Deans Marine now make a kit and may be able to supply some of the bits, worth asking as they are a helpful lot.

p.s. the link to the hobbystore page shows the plans in question top centre but they have used the wrong picture which may cause confusion

p.p.s. is the 10" beam including the flange? Once that is trimmed off it will even more closely resemble the Thornycroft.

The beam is 10'' with the flange at it's widest point, I take it is not supposed to be there? What a nice model which would look lovely on the water.
Which of the plans would I need?

Yes trimming off the flange thingy is a must as total beam should only be 7.5"

These plans;

I was unable to get through by phone, so went through the procedure on line; well service for you. Within 5 minutes of sending the contact phone I had a call back and plans ordered.  :-)) :-))
