International Model Boat Show 2015

STAND BY YOUR BOATS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL MODEL BOAT SHOW

Plans are well advanced for the 2015 International Model Boat Show, this annual event is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading marine modelling exhibitions.

Organised by Meridienne Exhibitions the event will take place from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th November at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre, near Leamington Spa.

This year there is a unique opportunity being provided for individual entries to be part of the show.

The organisers have asked Steve Dean the show’s Pool Master, who visits many events around the country, to seek out 10 entries to be part of a special display “Steve’s Top 10”. This will provide an opportunity for 10 modellers who do not belong to a club or their club does not exhibit at the show to have their work on display at this major event.

Steve said, “In my travels I often see models that deserve to be seen by a large audience. This doesn’t imply that they all have to be of a Gold Medal standard, they just need to be very unusual, possibly based on a little known prototype or just something that is a wonderful piece of model building. Little or large it doesn’t matter as long as it provides inspiration and admiration or just puts a smile on the face of show visitors.”

As we move into the summer months Steve will be on the look out to make his selection as he visits the shows, therefore if you feel you have a model worthy of consideration then don’t be shy in bringing it to his attention.
The selected models will need to be on display for all three days and if Steve chooses your model to be part of his “Top 10” then Meridienne Exhibitions will liaise direct with you to confirm the finer details.

International Model Boat Show 2015
Friday 6th to Sunday 8th November

Opportunity for individual entries.
As you will all no doubt be aware to be an exhibitor at the show your model has to be part of a Club display. Well this year there is an opportunity for 10 individuals to have a model on display on a special stand. As part of my role as Pool Master I have been asked by Meridienne Exhibitions to find 10 models to be at the show. In my travels around the country I often see models that are worthy of being seen by a large audience and therefore as we move towards the summer months I will be on the look out.
So what am I looking for? Well the answer is an eclectic mix ….. some because they are truly a spectacular piece of model building and others because they simply put a smile on the face of show visitors. It's not a competition ….. just an opportunity for 10 individual entries to part of the show.
I will at Brighton Model World 20-22 February, Coalville 11-12 April and Mayhem @ Wicksteed 23-24 May and many others which I will add to this thread during the coming weeks and months. If you want to be considered you are very welcome to PM me with your contact details and I will be in touch.
The models will need to be set up on Thursday 5th November and be on display for all 3 days of the show.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Steve Dean.

Hi Steve,
Could you clarify if the 10 models you select will all be part of one combined display,or as individual displays please?
I have been trying to exhibit my two large Cunard Models, which you have seen at Brighton previously, at Warwick for 3 years Now and can never get them in! I had messaged you previously in regard to this.I have recently shown them at the Blackpool show,as a club member but have been the only representative.
Many Thanks

Hi Ray123,
Thanks for your input. As you can see Mick and I are in contact about his Cunard models.

All the appropriate magazines are being sent a press statement by Merridiene Exhibitions that will probably appear in April cover dated issues so as we bring this opportunity to a wider audience (i.e. folk who are not on Mayhem).

Any chance of making the pools a bit deeper- be handy for submariners.

Hi Subculture,
I understand your comment about the pool depth, however that is outside of my control. I will of course pass on your comment.
For your interest we have just had a fantastic 3 days at Brighton Modelworld where the pool depth was sufficient for a superb demonstration by the submariners with a large crowd of the show visitors watching.

Its Friday 6th to Sunday 8th November.
Dont know why its not showing, but rule of thumb is it usually takes place  over the Remembrance Sunday Weekend?
Cheers,
Mick F.
PS I will be there with my two Cunard models.

Just a quick update ...... 5 of the places for non-club entries have now been taken up. If you want me to consider your model then please get in touch asap ..... time is ticking by.

Some of the models selected are very big therefore I'm really keen to now find some smaller models. So if you've built something unique, unusual or just plain wacky then get in touch. Either respond to this thread or PM me and I will contact you.

Hi Steve, would a plank on frame build which has not been completed be of use, as I am building HMS Illustrious in this method 1/96 scale or HMS Solebay completed 1/96.

If you have a model that is unusual, stunning or just plain wacky then get in touch asap. You can contact me via this thread or by personal mail and I will be in touch.

Hi Everyone,
Sadly due to unforeseen circumstances one of the people bringing some very impressive large models to be part of 'Steve's Selection' ( 10 exhibitors who are not on a Club stand ) has had to withdraw.
This means I have space to fit in one exhibitor with large models ( over 2 Mtrs ) or several exhibitors with smaller models.
If you've been sitting on the fence ..... well now is the time to step forward. Send me a PM or reply to this thread and I will contact you ASAP.
Thanks
Steve Dean.

Guys, I have to ask, Why arn't individuals allowed to exhibit at this event ????????? {:-{
I went last year and there seemed an awful lot of wasted / empty space where they could  display. Why only clubs ???
Sorry I don't see the logic, and before anyone jumps on the band wagon, Yes I have run events and shows and quite often outstanding models are missed because somebody isn't a member of a club...

A press release is just about to go out to the modelling media about the show and will list some of the models in the non-club members section. It will state that there is still room for few more ....... therefore, if you are interested then please contact me (via a Personal Mail) on this forum or contact the organisers and I will be in touch PDQ.

Via Email to Mayhem...

Final Countdown to the International Model Boat Show – See the best of the best!
It’s the final countdown to launch day for the 2015 International Model Boat Show which will take place from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th November at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre.
Over 3,000 visitors are expected to attend the show and enjoy over 600 models on the club and society displays.  Over 20 of the leading specialist suppliers will also be present.
For the first time individual exhibitors who are not part of a club or society have been “head hunted” by the shows pool master Steve Dean over the past year to be part of “Steve’s Top 10”.  All of these models are amazing in detail and size and will be very popular with visitors and other exhibitors!  In total if they were in a line they would be over 17m long!
The confirmed list to date includes; The Beast (1.8 metres), Turbinia (2 metres), Celestine (1.65 metres), Queen Mary (1.65 metres), HMS Warspite (2.8metres) Zara (2.8metres), Spurn Lightship (1 metre), Josephine 1880 Brig (1.65 metres) – there are two spaces left so if you have a model of interest please contact the organisers!
Exhibition Manager, Avril Spence said “We look forward to welcoming all to the show this year.  Along with all the normal attractions and suppliers for visitors to enjoy and meet the opportunity to see these magnificent models in one that should not be missed!
As always the large indoor boating pool will be in full use as all the club members sail their models for the visitor’s enjoyment.  Some clubs demonstrate as a group such as the RNLI with commentary which visitors find is really interactive and enjoyable.  The Surface Warship Association will again lead a poignant sailing tribute at the poolside during the two minutes silence on Remembrance Day.  For younger visitors there will be ‘children’s hour’ at the poolside between 1pm and 2pm over the weekend.
All the clubs will be competing for the “Society Shield’, which has been won for the past two years by Manx Model Boat Club – can any one stop them winning for a 3rd year……. competition was hot last year.
As the ONLY 3 day marine modelling exhibition dedicated to all aspects of marine modelling this is an event not to be missed – book your tickets NOW to take advantage of the specially discounted rates which are only available until 31st October (see www.modelboatshow.co.uk).  Social media users can follow all the latest news and updates by following @MeridienneEx (#IMBS) on Twitter or via Meridienne Exhibition LTD on Facebook.

I see terms like 'dedicated to all aspects of marine modelling' but not one race or other sports boat being mentioned. Is it just that this exhibition is not in that field, or that no one's entering such a thing?
