I would appreciate recommendations concerning batteries for a large J-boat model, an 8 foot long 'Ranger'. Two large servos (rudder and sails) and Rob's big SmartWinch. To run on salt water for typical durations of up to 30 minutes, or occasionally longer if practical. I have a pair of 4000 mAh LiPo's, but the maker strongly discourages saltwater use, saying fresh water OK, seawater no. I am far from committed to the latest & greatest in battery technology. I'll use anything that is reliable, even lead acids. Weight is not an issue, since the required ballast in this model will be around 92 pounds. I used to use NiCads in small R/C boats, without problems, and in fact still have my charger for them. One recommendation I have gotten for the J is to use Lithium Ion batteries, the main rationale given being that they can tolerate being run until nearly flat, unlike LiPo's. Comments gratefully appreciated.
