My Joffre
« on: June 29, 2015, 01:26:58 pm »

My Joffre finally in the water, that was a long build for me, started it last October, it was very satisfying to see it getting it's bum wet.
Cheers Terry

Hi Paul,
sorry no build photos, but there are two excellent Joffre build logs on this site. I have taken some photos of my RC installation for you. I put in an extra bulkhead to support the inboard end of the propshaft, this also gave me a place to mount the rudder servo. The brown tool chest has a hinged lid to hide an On/Off switch. The ESC is Velcroed to the hull near the battery box, and the Rx similarly attached on the other side, high up under the deck.

terry, thanks for getting back to me and appreciated. I will have a look at some other threads. I am currently sanding the stern to fit the rudder extender. No doubt I may be on with more question as this is my first rc model.

Hi Derek.
It is a piece of the very thin sponge cloths that are used for washing dishes. I put a piece anywhere that water might enter the hull, drips rather than anything major, normally under the propshaft or around the top end of the stern tube. It serves two purposes. Firstly you can easily see that you have a leak. Secondly it retains the water rather than having it find it's way into unseen parts of the hull.
I first used the idea on a yacht under the Fairleads, always the possibility of wet sheets bringing in the odd drip. After a sailing session take out the sponge to dry, job done.

Cheers, Terry.

Terry, what engine size have you got fitted (and Ampage). I got my model second hand with a 2 Amp monoperm - just wondering if this was right for the boat. Thanks PAUL

Terry,
I think its some sort for soak up pad either for oil from the stuffing tube or may-be just to catch any water that finds it way up, be hope Terry will give you the real and right answer.

Paul
I think, but not certain, that it is a 12v 550 motor. I would say that 2 amps are marginal for this type of boat, but there are people far more qualified than me to answer your question on this forum.

Hi Paul,
like I said I am no expert on Motors. Ask the question in the DC motors section of the forum before you splash out any cash on another motor.

Cheers, Terry.

That's a beautiful little thing - looks so elegant...
Am sorely tempted to build one...is it from the Caldercraft kit?

Hi David,
correct, it is the Caldercraft kit.
