CITROEN 2CV...VANDALISED.
« on: July 07, 2015, 11:10:58 pm »

I know you may well find this hard to believe but, this was to be a 'nice' build  :o  It is a 1/24 old Imai 1979 kit and is supposed to be motorised.

I painted the interior, roof and seats, the green bodywork came out lovely-then it went wrong. It wouldn't fit correctly, I spent three day on this, lost my patience and the model and the paintwork got knackered. I resorted to doing...yep, you guessed...a knackered one.

 I can remember going to Santa Pod way back, and seeing an antique 2CV...with a blown 3.5 Rover V8 engine/transmission/back axle stuffed in it. The driver sat where the rear seats were...there was nowhere else for him to go.

To say it was quick is a bit of an understatement...it was away up the strip like a rat on acid.  :o

And...it was fully street legal.

The French designers did love using thin steel material and pressing channels for exceptional rigidity  :-))... I am sure the Renault 10 and her brother the Gordini had pressings in the roof turret  :o .......

I had not seen an example of the post WWII Citroën  {-) "Ugly Duckling" before  %)......

Could its real name have been the forerunner to the Bologna Van?........Derek

The engineers of Citroën were always early technically

It is them who invented the car with front-wheel drive copied everywhere
It is them who invented the hydraupneumatique suspension (DS Citroën etc., C5)
This suspension is matchless
Citroen has the best road holding; it is impossible to put a citroen on the roof
But in a time(period) a citroen cut itself easily in two behind siéges before

Did the 'Mountain Goat' as I knew it come with compulsory anti-seasickness tablets given how 'boaty' they were. {:-{

Lord, they didn't half roll in corners. I could never fathom out how they didn't roll over given how far over they could lean.

Indeed, Citroen have produced some very imitative vehicles over the last hundred years or so but it was the DS19? and the DS 21's, the safari estate especially, caught my eye but, they all suffered from being prone to attack by tin worm and costly repairs when thing went wrong with the suspension.

The sight, when I was first driving in France in 1969 were the early 2CV's with front seats resembling a deck chair rather took me aback; needless to say nothing like that was ever sold in the UK.

Oh yes they were sold in the U.K. and they had the "deck chair" seats. They had the rather imaginative name of "Bijou" or 2CV , (two horse) Deaux Chaveau. ( sorry about my French spelling ).  :embarrassed:  Renault had a nice name for it`s smaller car " Dauphine".  I sold a few of them to American servicemen who wanted a VW until persuaded otherwise...damn I was good :} %) {-)

I saw very beautiful 2CV in England and a haughtiness in the Scotland

Seats looked like uncomfortable sofas ............. many girls lost their innocence on these sofas.
We could take out the sofa of the 2CV for the opportunity

la DEUX CHEVAUX went slowly, but certainly :-))  In the bends useless  to brake
It was very easy to put this car in head with tail or on the roof

la DAUPHINE  was as some soap, she did not hold the road >>:-(

The bench seats from Standard Vanguard Mk3 estates and Triumph 2000's also served in this way as well...... :} :} :} :}
