Central Texas Tug Club
« on: July 28, 2015, 06:46:17 pm »

Howdy folks! Whilst working on my model and cussing myself for making slight mistakes  >>:-( I thought that maybe there needs to be a club for Texas, I've done extended searches and can't find anything even remotely near me! So in hopes that some folks are around the College Station area or possibly an hour out, would yall like to start a towing club? Of course all models are welcome no prejudice here, but get some tow teams together and even simulate harbor operations? Just kicking the idea around and am wondering if anyone shares this idea!

You and I have talked on this forum before, Tex.  I live in Tomball and have had no luck finding tugboat running ponds, and very few other people like us in Houston.  I would be willing to drive to College Station occasionally.  Would you be willing to come down to Tomball?

Yes of course, definitely want a few of us ya know to enjoy running and then building too if we wanted to have build days? I dont know if thats a thing but sounds good to me! Literally here i have 8 ponds off the top of my head most of which are paved and well taken care of, so suitable for testing and running!

Buster, just where on Spring Stuebner is this pond?

The best prospective pond I have found is at Hooks Airport, Kuydendahl at FM 2920.  But I have not asked if I could run a tug on it.

Might be a tough bank to walk Dave,...

What about the puddle at St Edwards Church up the road?
Or does that dry out after a few days of sunshine?

Building a house east of Tomball.  Living in an apartment until then.

Can you name cross streets near the pond you are talking about?  I looked all over that area on street view, and other views.

OK, BigTex, where and when would you propose we meet up in College Station?  Keep in mind Buster and I have at least a 1.5 hour drive.

Off research pkwy, there is a very nice pond I think would be suitable! What do yall think? The pond is on campus so you can google map it if youd like its pretty large. Id say in two weeks just to give buster and me time to finish, but its all up for debate!

I visited Buster's pond today.  Nice water, but the slope of the sides is too great for my weak legs.  Somehow Umi saw that on Google Maps.

There is another pond, at Louetta and Champion Springs Blvd in Spring, TX that looks good.  It is in a subdivision so I am unsure if we would be OK running boats there, not being residents.  We might try that one after we try BigTex's pond in College Station.

Possibly make it a mandatory requirement to fly Texas A&M Flags on the vessels?  :-))
