O.S.V. Morning Tide (Nexus Tide)
« on: September 18, 2022, 10:42:28 pm »

Hi All, waiting on some deliveries so decided to dig out one of my other "just started, subsequently stored" builds.

This one is from a free plan from Model Boats magazine Dec '05 by Eris Kennedy.
The plan was enlarged by 148% to give an LOA of about 90cm.

The prototype was made with balsa and card but I opted for plywood, at least for the hull.
I've used mainly 3mm ply with some 6mm for supports where required.

I don't think I need to give a bit by bit explanation on the carcase, suffice to say the photos are reasonable enough to show the progress.

So, here's the first few...

As can be seen, the foredeck is only taped on at present until the final shape can be determined...

...and finally, for now, the stern piece ready for sanding down and ruler showing length.

Hi.  Ray   This looks like a simple build but non the less interesting and one you can use up some scrap materials I'll be following to see what you do with this.   :-))

It really is a great shame that these free plans from the magazines have disappeared except from the occassional item on ebay. They were often very appealing beginners models or recreational builds for the more experienced.

Hi Joe, good to know you're going to follow this one. I just can't be sure when the next update will come up but still determined to see this one through to completion.

These 'easy builds' always look like they can be done in a couple of months (at least in the magazine articles) but I suppose it depends on how much time and effort you can commit to the process.

Anyway, as per usual, I'm in no hurry.

Hope you and yours are well - cheers  :-)

Hi Tug Fanatic, you're spot on there, I've built up a good collection from the magazines over the years and I reckon I can fit into both of those categories - beginner and recreational builder - just hoping to complete a few more in the next couple of years  %) .

Do you have any builds ongoing at the mo?

Regards,
Ray.
