NAPARIMA 1905
« on: September 21, 2015, 06:31:36 pm »

For anyone interested in this type a of vessel NAPARIMA could make a good subject for a model.  She is 140 feet x 21 feet and a draft of 3' with tunnel screws.  She is a shallow draft steamer and was built for service between San Fernando and Cedros in the Gulf of Paria, Trinidad.

My knowledge of steam driven vessels in very limited, almost zero however, judging from the photo / plan, it would certainly be something "different" and could, of course, be run on electrical gear with a dummy steam engine. %)

Deck planking would be something of a challenge as well.  O0

Thank you for sharing.  :-))

I am currently collecting information with the plan to build a model of this ship. Has anyone ever built it?

If you do a search with Mr Google for "Whanganui River Steam Boats" you will find information on the boats which were built in England by Yarrows for A C Hatrick & Co with props operating in a tunnel. One (the Wairua) is restored and runs excursions but there was at least one other. The Wairua is single prop but I am sure there was a twin prop one also. It should be possible to obtain plans from the Whanganui Riverboat Centre. Hope this helps, Ian.
