Stunning work Pete
She sits in the water beautifully, the only places I've seen plans of Skirmisher outside of the NMM in Greenwich is Deans Marine and a GA plan in Norman Friedman's book about Victorian Era British Cruisers.

I've just looked through my copy of the book I mentioned and I'm sorry to say that I couldn't find what I thought were the drawings for Skirmisher/Sentinel. I did find a picture of Sentinel in the Eary Destroyers book but no drawing  {:-{

I'm sure I've seen a GA drawing in one of his books- I'll have another look through the books tonight after the Warwick show.

Hi Ian , all of the boats of that type  were just that, on the lake it does look a bit of bruiser,  but for a semi scale model it works and creates the effect of a big powerful ship the real thing must have been impresive,  but if it hadnt of  been for modellers like glynn guest , clive haliwell and hal harrison , giving people  like me the confidence through thier expierence  a and bit of a shove to attempt a project like this, regards Pete

Tried to fit ships boats with boiler heating up , well ships boats very nearly became banana boats , going to have to fit a heat just above the boat deck,  couple of gun barrels to fit and she is about complete, will post some pics, regards Pete

Testing boiler and making sure i dont bend the ships boats,  im removing all of gun barrels and using brass tube may turn up a couple of barrels , she needs a dust and some bits glueing back on , but the end is in sight , regards pete

Hi Ian , boiler fired up and ran well , the thing is i suppose when you build something  without instructions and out of your head , theres always improvements you can make as i had to with the ships boats but its a challenge and enjoyable , regards Pete

I am very pleased to hear she ran well.

I hope to see her around perhaps at Wicksteed.

Thanks Ian and Spud for your comments and encouragement,  if i can get to wicksteed with her i will . I hope this model inspires modellers to at least attempt something like this  ,as i have said before the hull build times are very quick and this is not a scale model just an attempt to capture the atmosphere of the ship. During the build i made countless mistakes although i like to call them modifications and over time the more mods you make the more you improve your skills and abilities.

When she was last on the water a chap was observing my effortless manoeuvering of borodino (stop laughing spud) .He commented  and said thats a pre dreadnought , yes i said , is it a kit he said . That was a suprise and i am by no means a good builder ask my wife, regards Pete

He is of the superior spectator class that does not point and go: 'Look, its the Titanic/Bismarck,Navyship (Delete as appropriate).

It was pointed out some time ago by a fellow member that many people cannot comprehend the idea of scratchbuilding and often cannot comprehend Model making beyond Airfix kits as seen occasionally when taking their wife into Hobbycraft for wool or cake making stuff. Miniature live steam is nowadays a poorly understood concept that has caused much disbelief from visitors to my old model engineer club. One baby narrowly avoided having its 'bottom' scalded because the parents, not believing that a 5inch gauge engine was actually making real steam and not an electric smoke generator, went to sit tot on the boiler for a photo!

Anyhow, that is all for another topic. Your ships are interesting and attractive in that ninteenth century way and the man obviously knew a little about the subject. Good for him:O)

Hi Pete

Try http://www.mz-modellbau.net/ for plans of Scharnhorst. They are quite quick at delivery and you get five plans of her.
One port side profile
One starboard side profile
One upper deck
One main deck
One Hull sections/waterlines

I wouldn’t recommend buying the hulls as they take forever and a day to arrive but the plans are pretty quick at being dispatched.
