I would go for the T12's.
The 850's are good but spin about 9000 rpm and if doing any real work can get power hungry.
They are more useful in fast craft.

I agree with Bob. I have used T12's in 4 Tugs/Coasters up to 48" long and have had plenty of speed/performance. MMM quote max revs as 4600 which is ample, and I have never had to resort to any gearing. I fitted an 850 to my Sea Queen to get a bit more pace over the original 800. Good for that but I was pushed to get 45 minute out of it. MMM sell the kit with the T12 so I think we can take that as a recommendation.

I seen what I thought were t12s In a portgarth and I thought they wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding but they turned out to be t24s running on 12v. I have read many posts on various forums and you are both right about going with the t12s, plenty of power and low drain. Many thanks for your comments, I'll let you know how my as trials go.

Hi Kris this is one for you, put your t12s in your North on direct drive, put your brushless in the Ormesby don't forget your drives are
geared, the brushless work for me in the Kestrel.
