U2! It has taken me a few days to catch up with your latest posts but I am completely delighted in your unique ship. When you proposed the idea at first I thought you were taking on a great deal of work without much information, but you have come up trumps, so many congratulations and I can see how proud you are. She looks great!

Tip -  You are right about rigging tangles!  Instead of masking tape(!) I use a piece of Velcro, sewed back-to-back which takes but a second to wrap round and clamp on or off both masts.

Thanks Nemo, a lot of this build is thanks to your help with dimensions and tips, and now the latest tip about the Velcro is another cracking idea. I'll be looking in my OHs sowing box when she's not looking.

Tom... I'll do my best, maybe a few sailing photos first and then I'll try and find out how to upload a video.

Anyway here's my back saving launch aid......

As you can see it's a 1 wheel 'back to the future' hovering design...... :}

Oh no the games up, you can now see the 2rear wheels..... :embarrassed:

Tom, thank you very much I appreciate you following my build.

Bob, yes they are lovely I just have to learn how to sail her well now. I managed to get her out and back in again without motor (after a fair few attempts) she went a little far over a couple of times and that gave me a few scary moments but I suppose it's part the learning to sail curve. Maybe I'll try with a little less wind until I'm a bit more used to her.

I very much like the blue on your boat and thought about copying it at one point but decided on white in the end.

All I need now is a captain and a red ensign. I have made a Union Jack for the time being because it causes more of a stir living here in France. All good fun  O0

I will try and get a video on here (or at least a link) but don't hold your breath

Thanks to all who have taken the time to read my blog even if you didn't comment.

And a great big thanks to all those that did....it's not to late.....      U2

Hi U2.

If 'Tanglier' isn't a word then it should become a recognised one!!! What a lovely job you have done. I do like the hidden switching port and just the overall look. I reckon she needs a skipper to add a bit of life unless the jib will bonk him/her on the head?

Yes, find some crew, they bring a ship to life. I have a family on board, including the ships dog and cat - who tries to hide from the dog!

Hi Ballast, yes I'm quite pleased with the switch cover (even if I do say so myself :embarrassed: ) I just wanted something to be able to charge and check batteries and switch it on and off without having to remove the cabin each time and at the same time it had to be waterproof. As for the jib on the head, no it won't, there is enough clearance for a scale size person to stand underneath as it swings.

Nemo, you are quite right it does does add a bit more life. The woman in the white top doesn't half like tea though eh?

I'll fit my flag today and then just a few small adjustments and she's ready to go again :}

It's amazing how many people ask where I bought it. I just say oh I didn't, I just bought some wood cut out all the pieces and glued them together........ I'm sure they don't all believe me........   U2

She does look good U2.
That's a powerful rig, I'm not surprised she dips a rail with the size of that topsail and it looks like it was pretty breezy on the day.

Hello Cap'n ...... Yes it was a bit breezy but the thing was that there was a spot just in front of me where the wind didn't seem to reach. Maybe the trees behind me blocked it. But on about 4 or 5 occasions I was trying to bring her in and had to go round again. My motor was not set up that day! It was a good learning curve though.

Nemo......

There she blows.....

Just for information for anyone reading I made all the windows exactly the same by making a jig with blocks of wood. Then I covered it with good quality car wax and glued all the pieces with superglue. There are three different lengths of wood and are all made by putting them into a groove of the said length and sanding flat level with the edge of the jig. One jig for the big window and another for the small squares window.

The portholes are cadmium plated washers and I just drilled 5 small holes in each. For the first one I advise marking out the angles with a protractor for the required number of holes then when you are satisfied use it to drill through and spot the next washer. Use the same washer to spot all the other washers and all your portholes will be the same. :-))

If anyone is interested I'll dig out my jigs and photograph them..... U2

Andrew,  that's interesting, yes it was but I know it as 'lac immaculee'  I just asked my OH and she said it's also called Bois joalland like you said. Weather permitting I'll be there again Sunday around 2pm.

Will you be there again or was it just a visit for the race? I assume by the 44 in your forum name that you live here. If you prefer you can click on my link and email me.     Hope to see you Sunday U2

Thanks for your reply. I follow all the sailing forums, and as your ID says 'near Guérande', I thought there can't be other topsail schooners in the vicinity !

I live in Pornichet and am part of the SNOS (Saint Nazaire OmniSports) Voile radiocommandé section. We (up to about 10 boats) sail on Thursday and Sunday afternoons. The standard boats are IOMs. Not the same hobby as yourself, but it's all sailing...

Météo France says éclaircies, wind W by NW 20kph, so Sunday should be good, and not as gusty as last week !

That is a nice place to sail. I was out with my Alantis at the same time, the wind was blowing a bit and at times she was right over. I'm slowly getting more used to sailing her now and she gets a fair bit of speed up with the wind behind her sails.
 I have now mastered the art of getting her back on the trolley, that's tricky and fun.... She comes belting towards me in a straight line and I have to get ready to grab the mast and guide her onto the trolley. I could use the prop as a brake but I try to sail without using the prop at all.
I only use the prop if I find myself getting too close to something I don't want to be near. So far I haven't needed to charge the Lipo emergency battery and it's still at 12v (I test it works before each outing)
 It's nice when people comment about her and ask if they can take photos. So far so good...... U2

Not at all - these Canada geese are a complete menace. They chase off other birds and pester the small ducks. They make the worst mess ever with their droppings which seems continuous! They make our small slipway even more slippery! Dog-owners at least pick up their pooches mess, but the geese are ten times worse.  Apparently there is nothing we can do to deter them. >:-o
