good evening, newbie here!!
« on: January 31, 2016, 08:22:01 pm »

Good evening all. A good friend has bulit my son a fiberglass model boat and we now need to fit it out. I've been looking on the good old interweb and there is so much choice I don't know where to start.
the boat is 40 inches in lenght and is a deep V racing style power boat.
I would like to go down the electric motor route but just don't know what size motor, prop, speed controller, rudder to go for, all i can remember is that the 540 size motor in his tamiya radio controlled car went well but am sure that its probably not big enough for this set up.
Although its a race boat style (off shore power boat style) i don't need it to be doing 60mph, would like it to be quick, just not insane.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction (i've been looking at the hobby king web site)
Many thanks

Neil

Hi
A nice not to speedy boat(would get up on the plane) would brushless motor 35mm(same size as a 540) 3639-750kv, 3S Lipo battery 5800mah, 60Amp ESC and 40-45mm 2 blade prop.
Later upgrade(fast boat) to 3639-1100kv.
Faster a 3648-1450kv motor.
Insane, change to a 4S battery.
Been down this road with my off shore racer.
Picture the last setup!!!!
