It reminds me of  'The Beast of Turin'?

Was it especially difficult to apply the leaf to grilles etc?

I cannot wait to see more.

Hi all here is the next installment

no difficulty with the grill but the carbs being brass and copper, let me tell you they nearly ended up being painted.

As usual, you are turning what started off as a 'kit' into an art form.  Beautiful work  :-))

Yes, lovely. You are getting first class results with the leaf to the point that it makes it little worth getting metalllic paint at all.

My thinking is you can't get more real than the metal itself, the trouble is its harder than painting, especially on complex shapes and curves (polishing is a problem as well, since it's easy to wear through)

Ah, there are pros and cons for everything, but your point about the finish quality of real metal is a selling point.

Hi all, well the friction dampers are definitely fiddely these took all last night (the legs/arms have round holes which are an interference fit on square pegs I was worried they might snap with the force required to push them on, so I drilled them out a bit, still a snug fit but safer

Already they look as old as the real vehicle! Subtle work Ken.

Hi all I've read a lot about this car and from what I can gather the engine leaked oil like a sieve (in fact the driver was sitting in hot engine oil after every run ) so I've tried to depict a very oily engine.

I reckon you have recreated an oliy engine that chucks out enough dirt with the oil to be coloured but not enough to look like an old tractor. Great control of the weathering Ken. I can smell the hot hydrocarbons :-))

Looks beautiful, I wondered what was in the kit, you'll have to get the Airfix 1/12 Bentley to match! :-))

Done the Bentley (very nice kit)(if very over priced and very dated) none the less a very nice kit, and the only 1/12 4.5 litre Bentley out there.

Hi all here's the next installment.
A lot of the kit supplied tubing is way out of scale, another modeler  is building this (to a much higher standard than I could hope to and they are using shrink wrap tubing to great effect) the following photo is of the kit supplied tubing and the tubing I intend to use (I think you can see there is quite a difference)

The metal leaf does allow the weathering to work so much more realistically. I like that engine very much.

Hi all well done a bit more on this, I was told by someone building this on another forum the chain is very difficult to do(you put it together in sections then melt the little pins to keep the chain together)
well as he did I melted the first link to the one underneath, so I had a rethink activexp (the other builder) tried a solering iron with adjustable heat setting and even on the lower setting had trouble with melting links so that method I ruled out, my solution which seemed to work quite well after a few minor changes (tried cold water but cooled the blade to quick)I put the chain assy in a shallow glass dish and put just enough hot water in till it is level with the top link then heat the knife blade up and melt the pin, I made the water as hot as I could bare to put my hand in (not boiling as was worried it might warp or melt the plastic)

this is just one set there are I think 4 more

Fine work Ken. Chains are an attractive detail on a model and repay the effort made on them. I like your metal effects on the levers, hand worn shinminess rather than chrome shininess.

You have another top model in the offing :-))

I know how you feel sometimes especially if there is the slightest hint of a deadline. Hobbies should not be about deadlines except where the enjoyment factor will be enhanced, say by finishing a model to take to ashow, or painting an army to use at a big game. otherwise, it feels like work for me.

Take a breather and take stock of what you have acheived and what you enjoy doing most, remember it is your hobby first.

I found it ironic that on posting my figure painting ont two forums, the wargames one got little interest at all, while you chaps posted some interesting comments! You cannot bet on how much comment you will get on a project.
