Woodspring Model Sailing Club
« on: March 12, 2016, 04:01:11 pm »

The Woodspring Model Sailing Club was formed in 1974 to promote the building and sailing of radio controlled model boats.  The club provides a friendly atmosphere in which to enjoy the hobby and we always welcome new members.

Our sailing water is a pretty public lake at the Portishead Lake Grounds in North Somerset.  The lake has a paved path all around and a single island.  There is plenty of free parking and other facilities nearby.  To get there by SatNav enter BS20 7HU.  I have also attached a map to this post.

Sailing takes place on most Sunday mornings from about 10.00 am.  The club is affiliated to the Model Yachting Association and we regularly host National and District Championships. There is a very active model yacht racing section of the club, mainly with the International One Metre and Radio 'A' class boats.  We also support the smaller Victoria, Dragon Force and RG 65 classes.  The club also has a section involved with scale modelling covering a range of sailing, steam and electric powered scale models.  We currently support two local exhibitions each year as well.

For more information please see our website www.woodspringmsc.webeden.co.uk.  The Website provides contact details and a calendar of events through the year.  Some forthcoming events include:
Saturday 9th April 2016:  Exhibition at the Portishead Ship Show
Sunday 15th May 2016:  Club Open Day at the Lake Grounds (other clubs are invited to join us)
August 19-21st 2016:  Exhibition at the BSMEE Thornbury show.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Here are some photos from the Woodspring Model Sailing Club's display at the annual BSMEE exhibition last month.  The BSMEE held their show at the Thornbury Leisure Centre near Bristol from 19-21st August and as usual it was well attended by traders and model clubs.  The main focus is on Model Engineering but many model boat clubs attend as well including the Clevedon & District MBC, Yate & Sodbury MBC and ourselves from the Woodspring club.

This year we had 23 models on display mainly showing the Scale Sail and Racing interests within the club.  We also showed a number of steam-powered models.  We had a lot of fun and as usual it was great to talk with members of the public and visitors from other clubs.  If this kind of exhibition appeals then perhaps we'll see you at next years' exhibition, or if you want to sail your boat with us then do come along to the Portishead lake ground.
