Model Expo HELSINKI FINLAND
« on: March 16, 2016, 07:59:36 am »

http://www.messukeskus.com/Sites2/ModelExpo/Sivut/default.aspx

I.e. the biggest model hobby show in the country April 15 through 17.
Biggest in Finland may not seem that big to you, but it's an important promotion event in Finland.

The organisers don't seem to appreciate the need for communication in English, but if you go, you will find that everybody speaks English.

The show may turn up on these English pages later.

I went there a few years ago and it's a good day out if you're in Helsinki.

Sadly I am booked on the ferry from Hull to Europort on the 18th for the Dortmund show.
For future reference how far in distance from Helsinki airport to the show?
There's always next year!

I look forward to seeing images of the show. It is interesting to see what modellers around our planet get up to.

I promise to take pictures. They would be wortwhile also for making up one's mind about whether it would be worth a trip.

I talked to my local hobby shop. They are not going. If it's any indicative, he said there's not enough sales.

R/C Model parts is 100% imports in Finland. And for scale model boats, lousy at that, as essex2visuvesi probably knows. You need anything, you buy it online.

In the show, cars, race boats, trains and military (tanks) and civic construction will be expected. I'll be happy to see ... maybe five ... scale model boats. There are fora of model builders, to be sure. Scratch as well as kits. To get a feel of one of the fora (Finnish only): http://www.pienoismallit.net.

Indeed, it was a trial getting some parts.  But there is still a big following for building models in Finland.  Probably something to do with the long Winters lol

So, the show's on right now.
Spacey and a lot of light.
Not big as a show, but there is an artificial pond big enough for display sailings.

KaMeWa was there with Viking Express and other models.
I liked the passenger ship Leppävirta II, which is a  very traditional and romantic lake district liner. There may be one or two of them left in real life. If you ever travel to Finland, you should try to make a trip on one of them - overnight or shorter trips are available.

Overall, not many boats, but some very nice. Very many trucks and cars. Copters (of course). Few model railways.

Great photos Hande - thanks for posting them up  :-))

It isn't often we get to see what other shows in Europe are like.

As for the classic steamer, my wife and I travelled on one very similar last year in the Stockholm Archipelago.  We had a lovely meal on board - all arranged with the kind courtesy of Hama, a member on here from Stockholm who is a skipper on the Archipelago ferries.  Will never forget it!!!!
