Minature Steam boilers?
« on: June 06, 2016, 01:55:40 pm »

Good afternoon!

I'm planning the next project and need a boiler suitable for a twin oscillator and the maximum dimensions for the body of the (horizontal) boiler is 160mm x 60mm excluding any steam dome etc.
The only one I can find is the Minature Steam 2" so.......
1. Has anyone any experience of them and
2. I assume that I can fit a pump inlet somewhere in the system.

OR can anyone suggest an alternative?

Cheers

Bonjour Tony,
]A diameter of 60 mm seems quite small to my opinion, especially if the lengh is 160 mm.
The funnel for the torch (20 mm mini I presume to be able to install a little torch) will take a lot room and you will have a large boiler for no water. Heated by a ceramc burner below means a Babcock like boiler and need aditional tubes below...
Add a pump means power, and a small engine can be not sufficient to run it and the boat. Electric, you need batteries.
One of the smallest boiler I have filmed is in a 80 cm Medea steam yacht : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlU3gNHbRVg And the tank has a diameter of 52 mm.
In France, currently, we have 2 manufacturers who could do something for you : Anton  http://www.anton-vapeur.fr/ and JMC http://jmc.vapeur.free.fr/
Could tou give us more details on your project ?

The one you reference does not seem to have any provision for a water fill valve (clack or goodall) but you may be able to ask them to fit one at the end under the chimney as they seem to be made to order.

Sorry all, I've checked the measurements again and the correct numbers are 185mm maximum length and 80mm maximum diameter. These allow zero insulation.
The installation is in an open boat so there is no physical barrier, just the scale appearance.

Hello rhavane, I've sent you a PM.

Thanks

Tony

Greetings -

I have purchased from them - although a larger model.
Also a Dual Cyl Oscillator engine, and tanks.

VERY GOOD SERVICE, and very good quality.

Bonjour Tony,

To complete Jim's message, I know that Anton and JMC also make boilers on demand. It would cost you nothing to draw a plan of your boiler and ask them a quotation ok2  Just a remark, by default, they use metric measures for all their nuts.
