Revell 1/8 ford 32 rod
« on: June 18, 2016, 03:51:41 pm »

Hi all well thanks to the generosity of michu (from another forum I am on) I have this kit to build. I will be doing it oob to try and regain some confidence. It is a massive kit (which again I thank him so very much for) my intention (assuming I don't ruin another kit) is when finished to take it apart and add more detail (given the size of this kit that should be more than possible) provided of course I don't ruin it.
So wish me luck mates.

Hi all well i like this colour better than the yellow.

According to revell it should be yellow but if you Google series 61 v8 pontiac engines they are all blue or just cast metal.

Ken......appears the Mr Revell has used a quite little artistic licence <*<

32 to late 40's vintage US Ford V8 engines were termed as 'flat heads' or side valves with the plugs entering the top of the large profile cast iron head

Its a hot rod Derek.  Would have an o.h.v. Chevvy or other "hemy" dropped in unless running in "flathead" class.

Revell 1/8 '32 Ford Street Rod 07492

'In the 1960's, American Hot Rodders expanded their affection for the 1932 Ford roadster, a long time favorite due to its stylish appearance. This roadster was modified to house a 389 cubic inch (6,5 L) Pontiac V8 engine with six Stromberg downdraft carburetors under the hood. A manual transmission directs the power to a Halibrand "quick-change" rear axle assembly. The "buggy spring" suspension features a dropped front axle dampened by tubular shock absorbers, with hydraulic wide Goodyear tires improved handling of the car. Stock interior appointments have been enhanced by a sporty steering wheel, Stewart-Warner gauges, and custom foot shaped accelerator pedal. The deceptively stock exterior appearance belies a multitude of performance enhancing modifications that will astonish and delight onlooker'

Its a hot rod Derek.  Would have an o.h.v. Chevvy or other "hemy" dropped in unless running in "flathead" class.

its a model of a custom hotrod... which means it will have whatever the person who custom built it wanted or could afford to put in it.  for any of the cars that are built like this, there are exactly ZERO rules as to what is and is not proper. 90% of these were originally built by some highschool kid in his backyard.  yes, there are people that race these at drag strips, but maybe 1% of them ever reach that level.  99% of these are used to "cruise" on a saturday night, or at best, street racing...

its also a plastic model kit, made originally in the early to mid 80's, by a company known for cutting corners when-ever possible.  the description on the box really doesn't jive with reality.  there are some of us here in the states that would have zero issues putting a GM engine in a Ford chassis, but there are others that are HORRIFIED when an idiot basically thinks that anything is better with a Corvette engine in it...  especially a Ford, when there are many Ford engines that would fit "under the hood" of that beautiful little beast.

kpnuts...
is there any way you could post pictures with the car body sitting next to something like a ruler or (as a classic size estimating tool) next to a 12oz soda can?  i understand that at 1/8 scale it is huge, but just how huge is it?

Hi all, enjoying this engine, sticking strictly to oob but there is so much potential for detailing up.

I've put it next to a 1/8 Citroën traction avant and a rule so you can see the size

There's no glod, or even gold on the engine mate I think it's the lighting from the flash.

Six Stromberg 97's on a flat V8.
My uncle had 4 on his Ford Mainline Ute with twin copper 3" exhaust.
He would be pulling 2nd gear up passed my nan and pop's house right to the end off the up hill straight.
The sound I remember to this day!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all tonight's bit, according to the instructions the engine is finished and there are no missing gaps in the spures, and the list of parts dosent list it but I'm sure there should be a fan blade ? I no nothing about these big American engines but every other car engine I've seen has one, also I've chosen the chrome exhausts, I wonder do they go blue like bike exhausts.

Would have expected tubular manifolds (headers) rather than the log manifolds it has.

I would think they would discolour Ken. Tamiya (sorry if you already know this) do a range of transparent colours just for this job along with a useful 'Smoke' shade.

Lovely looking engine.

Hi all I've decided, as I used to customise bikes in my youth I would do a custom paint job on this I've started the background sky, I'm intending to do dragons and stuff on it, I've done it matt so I can draw and paint on it then in the end I will gloss it.
