Revell 1/12 camaro
« on: June 27, 2016, 08:57:49 pm »

Hi all well I'm enjoying the 1/8 hot rod immensely and I think it has rekindled my mojo so I've made a start on this

(still not confident enough to do any more to my ships) firstly a warning to all, careful how you stack your stash, this was OK when I put it away but there were 4 heavyish kits on it.

Those who know me will know I hardly ever do as the box art.

Hi all I've had a blue Peter moment with this kit, I've heard of bmf and thought maybe i could make some.

Take a reel of double sided sticky tape and stick it to the back of some bacofoil

Cut from the tape side (the foil all rucks up if you try it from the foil side.

You never lost your MOJO Ken, a feew mishaps, a spell of R&R plus some issues that were caused by water damage etc a while back all conspired to baseball bat your confidence. It happens to us all, but keeping on modelling has got you back to where you are doing mega things. Look at that dragon motif you are doing, and also your BMF with the foil? outstanding patience.

The Camaro already looks a winner and it ain't got any seats in yet! :-))

Hi all I need some help choosing wheels, there are 3 sets in the kit and I've put the gt 500 wheels with it too.
For easiness please just say 1,2,3 or 4

Out of an uninspiring selection offered you Ken, I think set 4 say yes to me. The tyres work better with the ride and paintjob.

Set 4 here too, but I quite like set 2 as well
Might I suggest you strip the chrome off and repaint them as I think the "chromed plastic" always looks a bit too shiny

Mr Muscle oven cleaner in a bag will lift it in no time.... I'd test on one of the sets you decide not to use first tho just to be sure

No 4 for me as well KP..they look far more "in keeping"... :-)) and IMO the chrome looks lovely and shiny, just like a "show" car would.....if that's the look your going for...

Hi all well my son came round today for a bbq (his sisters birthday) and I showed him this he said there's only one colour scheme for a camaro and that's black and yellow, I said no this is the older version but he gave me a lecture about how at the beginning of the film he had the older version it only transformed to the new on later in the film. Anyway it's my model and this is how it's staying, here's tonight's bit.

Hi all the engine is complete, I must say this is a really great kit, part fit is good, the chrome plating is also very good, and the detail is excellent, I would recommend this to anyone.

Excellent weathering as usual. The rust looks just right and the filth is not excessive :-))

Fourth pedal could be either, a "dead pedal" (somewhere to rest your foot when driving)
foot operated brake pedal, (mercedes have them)
or it could be a "line lock" pedal, to enable front brakes only to be applied, whilst winding up the motor for a quick take off. A lot of street racers use them..lets them lock the front and spin the back tyres for extra heat.

But a bit of googling later....it is an emergency brake pedal......basically a foot operated parking brake system.

Hi all well I've made a bit of a booby on this, tried polishing the paint to get a better shine and on the side I polished through to the primer a bit so will have to get some more pound land silver, anyway here is the latest update.

This kit seems to be going together very well, all seems to be a good fit, I must admit she's a beautiful looking car, not really surprising it was designed at the peak of American car design, before all car manufacturers started to build cars that were indistinguishable from their rivals, I love this period and before when you could tell one car from another at 300 yards, whereas nowadays you have to get within 10 feet to tell if it's a Ford or a Citroën.

I know what you mean, even bread an butter cars like marinas, avengers and cortinas had an individual look. She's comin along great ken. Shame about the air filter but at least it will be cheap to fix.

Hi all nearly there now, I know the tyres are a bit narrow but they are all I have to fit those rims.

She's starting to look excellent Ken. Could youy slit the rims and sand one half to narrow them?

Hi all well it's finished, not great but not rubbish either, wish I was better at this but at least it's presentable, I think I'm on the right track, I'm quite pleased with the paint job, quality could be much better but I like the style of it

And as you can see I'm running out of room maybe time to start binning stuff

What a gorgeous pair of motors Ken. I like the oil spatter on the hood/bonnet:O)

Top job. I would have both of those in my cabinet.
