What Kind of engine. Please help!!
« on: July 21, 2016, 04:49:22 pm »

Hi folks. This is my first post so be gentle please.
I have done a little model boating many years ago. But this is almost a fresh start. I have just got my hands on a lovely 1/7 scale model of a 1952 launch called Brenda and is about 1m in length. It already had the keel and some planking put down. So I feel its down to me to do it some justice and make a good job of the rest of it. The kit is made by Anfora models. I think it was an early version of a Reva but I cant find much info on her. Can anyone help me out as I dont have a clue what size or kind of engine/gearbox to put in. Also there is a prop but not sure this is correct and the shaft looks a little naff to me but again not an expert like you lot :-)) . There is no infomation at all on running gear in the vid ect so Im really up the creek without a er well! engine. I would rather put good equipment in than scrimp on a few pounds not that im rich but
I only paid £16.50 for this kit so it owes me nothing so far. If anyone can help that would be fab
All the best
Kevin

It seems this model was launched in 2001 by Anfora

There are probably many similar boats about here is a thread which may help with the building of this type of runabout
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1068388

Although a smaller boat, it may help with specifications for the motor, prop, etc.

Cheers

Engine = internal combustion
Motor probably electric.
Go to the forum home page and search for "Riva".  At least one of the many threads revealed should give clues regarding powering one, as well as lots of tips on overcoming or avoiding any pitfalls along the way.

Hi Captain smurf

What a lovely boat and a good size!!!
As for engine/motor a Hobbyking 3639-750 or 3639-1100 kv these are 35mm and use the same motor mount.
With a 3S Lipo battery the 750(8325rpm) and the 1100(12210rpm).
With a 4S Lipo battery the 750(11100rpm) and the 1100(16280rpm).
As for ESC(speed controller) a 60Amp 2-4S with reverse will handle both motors.
For props 2 blade 40mm or 3 blade 37mm are a good start.
Also a 3648-1450 motor will fit but it's a beast of a motor at 1600watts.

Hi All sorry for late response.
Thanks Canabus. She is a pretty boat. I have decided to put some red leather with the cream on the seats to give a bit more umph.
along with a few other touches. When I get to that stage. But first the hard work! The distructions are really crap so I'm having to do a lot of guess work and making things up as I go :embarrassed: Mind you this is probably normal I can hear you all say. Welcome to the world of model boats.  :-)) . Yes it was a bargain essex. Daft really. I will post some good pictures when I've finished. That bit I can do ok being an old snapper

Cheers all

Hi Captain Smurf
You read distructions!!!
The danger of using red, it will make the boat go faster.
I tested the Sea Commander(34 inch) with a 5800 mah 3s Lipo,D3548/4 1100kv motor,  60Amp ESC and 40mm 2 blade prop.
After the first run I readjusted the rudder to offset the prop torque(I had a bit too much offset) also changed the Lipo from a 3700mah to 5800mah to move the balance point of the boat forward.
Moved the battery to the side a bit to offset the prop torque.
On the second run nice and straight with out the bow bouncing up and down.
The boat at full speed sat very nice and was more a speed boat than a cabin cruiser.
