« on: July 22, 2016, 07:37:21 am »

Hi all,

Just wondering if any1 can't recommend a decent speed controller for a fairly large 12v motor but I'd prefer one wiv out BEC so can power motor seperatly. Any help appreciated.

DJ.....I am sure members will offer a selection of speed controllers, however such suggestions would need clarification of 'fairly large' :embarrassed:

12 Volt DC motors range from say 0.3 amp draw to your starter car motor which can draw 300 amps................. Derek

Most ESC's can be 'de BEC'd ' by removing the red wire from the plug , some have a dip jumper that you just pull off to break the circuit (Micro Gyro's FR40 for instance)
Just because a motor is large , wont necessarily mean high amp's are involved  , a lot of tug boat guy's use 12v car heater fan motors, massively powerful but seem to run all day on a 12v 7ah battery. . .

Electronize for me everytime, bulky by modern standards but very reliable

Hi all, thanks for the replies,

The motor I'm gonna use is a caldercraft 900 torque motor (bigger than my usual 400 6v)
I have a electronize FR12x and has the red wire so does it have a BEC or not 😨, because if I can run it on one 12v and it powers the whole system including servos that would be simple but I'm not sure if I'm getting it horribly wrong.
Any advice appreciated.
Many thanks DJ
