Old FUtaba servo question
« on: July 23, 2016, 06:13:13 pm »

On the old FUtaba servo,s reading from L-R the cable colours are black, black, red.
I know the red or + should be in the middle for modern rx systems, but which black
Is the signal wire?

Hi John,
the usual colours for old Futaba M series and similar is white(signal) red(4.8v+) and black (-) and that would be looking at the plug with the two pins that are closest together on the right- - -therefore the signal wire is the one on the left. Also when you put the servo's side entry plug into the receiver, the signal wire is that furthest away from the edge of the receiver. I'll take a picture and post if you're still unsure,

Okay, here's a picture with the two closest pins on the LEFT- - so are Black(-) Red(+) White(signal, which in your case is also Black)

This is not the oldest of the Sanwa connectors but is it not the one, John?
1, 2, 3 corresponds to (s - +) coloured (bk, bk, red).

Even if the cable on a Futaba servo has been replaced there are ways to tell which is which.
Or is it like Trevor's picture but covered in paint. :}

Hi John, if you have the old style Futaba plug, it wont fit new style receivers, the plug is female on the new receivers,  you will need to swap the plugs and sockets, simple to do, just cut the wires at the old plug and crimp new connectors on to the wires then slot them into the new casing (in the right configuration)

Hope this helps. ps. the new fittings are available on ebay

I just remembered that I acquired some of the strange black coloured, gold-peg connectors.I didn't realise these ones were used by Futaba.I probably threw them out along with the red, black, white ones.

I think it calls for a proper electrical test before swapping cables. That is what I would do if I still had the parts.

Hi guys, I must apologise to you for giving you the wrong make of servo :embarrassed:
It is a hitec HS-300. Which with the help of Stan was tracked down to be
more than likely made by airtronics with a hitec label on it.
Thanks for the help it is appreciated .

The Airtronics hardware was like Sanwa. It underwent the same sequence & colour change when they changed from what they called the T plug (see Sanwa pic) then adopted the Hitec type of plug.
You just need to google pictures to get guides and forum chatter on the subject.

Hi guys, well I tried the airtronics wiring sequence but no joy, the servo did not work.
So it looks like the servo which is by all accounts pre 1990,s will become a radar motor.
But I now know all the wiring sequences of sanawa, hitec, futaba, airtronics, etc.
So many thanks for your help.
