Which of the above esc would be suitable for MFA Torpedo motors? is says motors draw 10a on max efficiency.  They are to go in a HMS Bristol which is 82" long ,but should have a good turn of speed as she was a fast ship.

If it is an 800 motor then you will need a 15amp esc BUT if it is the 850 then you will defo need a 25amp one.....must admit I have seen 28 amps being drawn on a 850 on a 60mm 2 bladed prop!!!!!

Torpedo 800 or 850's??


I currently have 2 800's in my hms mersey 1/48 and having issues with amps.
A single 40amp esc for both motors gets very hot and if i go full ahead to full astern sharply she blows 40 amp fuses on the battery connection.
Moved across this evening to a 75amp esc to control both motors and thats getting hot to the point i cant touch the esc.
im now looking at either swapping out motors or getting some BIG escs.


From experiance overkill on the esc get what you can afford.

Get some proper esc's ACTion ones m8 they will handle the 800 with ease

I have 3x850 on my1/24 S-boot   ave 38A but can peak high40's

Spoke to Paul of Mtronixs (thanks Stan) and we have decided that for the type of motors, length of hull and size and number of blades, the viper 75 is the bad boy to go with. So a pair of those will eventually be fitted, will give me adequate control and allow the odd burst of speed, that the 1/1 was capable ofof.

Not an expert but I prior to build have put the motor,shaft and prop in a simple wood test rig and then run it with the prop in a bucket of water whilst measuring the current draw. Then I pick an ESC that can take  around double the current. I then put in a fuse 5A lower to protect it and if space fuse the motor as well.
