St. Albans Model Show
« on: August 27, 2016, 09:57:08 pm »

Hi all, we are at the Townsend C of E School High Oaks St. Albans AL3 6DR.  It is on 24th and 25th. September.
We have all aspects of modelling a small pool with have a go RC boats, steam train rides flying and Ant and his RC trucks (bigger than at Alexandra Palace).
There are all the local clubs who support us and if you remeber back to the days of Meccano you will not see a better display.  RNLI and other charities attend as well.

We shall also have a lot of model boats for sale with all of the bits and pieces that go with it including batteries and spares.  These came from the estate of Ron Javeleau who sadly passed away a week ago.  There are about 70 boats in all some simple and therefore cheap!  But nothing is very dear, there will be a good sized marquee devoted to them.  It is possible to view earlier if so PM me or contact Malcolm Beak on this forum.

Hope to see you and bring the grand children as we expect around 400 over the weekend.
Admission £4,00 and young people £1.00
regards Roy

Hi all we shall have a marquee devoted to selling model boats and fittings for club funds.  Sorry but it is by collection only.  PM me for a personal visit as there are so many we will have difficulty in getting everything to the show so first come first served.
Hope to see you at our exhibition this coming weekend.
There are other smaller boats as well, plus hulls and an HMS Victory kit part started.   There are motors batteries etc, etc.
regards Roy

I'm a happy chappy - bought the 1/72 Liberty Ship.

It needs lots of tlc to get it back into ship-shape but it's plenty big enough.
May go back tomorrow and see what's left....

It will be - done a good assessment this afternoon - electrics totally fried, rigging needs starting again, numerous cracks/broken joints, needs paint, armament needs sorting out, railings needs finishing, hatch covers need upgrading & lots of little bits & bobs all over.
I've used Henry to evict the spiders, their webs, a mouse nest, dead insects dust & debris - looks better already.

Would like to second that. The show was a resounding success again. Enjoyed the canteen , and spend a pleasant couple of hours gluing broken airfix kits

Thank you all for your kind remarks, we were pleased with the way the show came together.  A big but is that without the visiting clubs it would not be what it has become.  We had several charities present including the RNLI who said they had their best year ever!  Yes we were bigger than last year, did you see the Scalextric racing cars?
The catering ladies are treasured by us and kept sweet by the committee.
We sold over 1500 tickets with about 400 of those being to young people.

I was to be found in the club shop on the green for most of the time and you guys bought about 60 boats from us and numerous support items.
We are indebted to the late Ron Javeenau for all the models he had made over the years, but if he is looking down now I am sure he will be pleased to see that most of them will be taking to the water again.  We ahd a panic three day clearance of his premises! and then had to safely store everything.

We have some motors and brass propellors left over so PM me if you have specific needs.  We put most of a Schaarnhorn kit, hull plans and a lot of laser cut wood parts to one side for someone but it was not claimed. If that was you?  Let me know what you want to happen please.  I will give it a week before offering it again for sale.

Best of all we had two prospective new membership enquiries!

We hope to return next year for the last weekend in September and look forward to seeing you all there again.

Many regards .
Roy (Hon Sec, St. Albans model engineering society)

Klunk and Plastic could of course always consider joining the club. It is 50% a model boat club after all. I've heard the Membership Secretary is always happy to receive donations - even plastic fivers :)
