Hi,

Personally I use white and or a filler primer first then white, if you use a dark primer the orange brilliance can be dampened down.

Others may do it differently, I think Stavros does a good thread on painting.

That's fine, the I put a coat of white over, after rubbing it all down between coats. %%

When I was researching colours for my Mersey I found a thread where someone (sorry I forget who) had the paint details from the engineering people at Poole. They use...
 Blue - BS381c Oxford Blue 105
Yellow - BS381c Bold Yellow 363
Red - BS381c Rail Red 593
Orange - BS381c Light Orange 557
I have a local paint-shop supplies company who will make up these colours in either a rattle can or a tin, and they're cheaper than the Halfords cans! They look really good on my Mersey.

No probs.
I use Paint Shop Supplies which are located just off Little Tennis Street in Nottingham. No, I've not built the Tamar. As Spongie says Models By Design now supply the 1/12th Mersey hull and partial superstructure (I had the mouldings from the early 90s but can't remember who originally made it, although I'm pretty sure it's the same mouldings!). There are some build logs on here of people building Merseys from this hull which are worth a read as the moulds are quite basic so a bit of work is needed to get a highly detailed model.

There are two hull colour below the waterline on the Shannon. Black and a sort of greenish grey.
On checking out the corporate ID RNLI page they dont mention these.
I have heard the black called 'Anthracite'.
Does anyone know the RAL colors involved please?

The only "anthracite"  in the RAL chart is "Anthracite Grey"  RAL 7016

There is no colour code for it really, it is just black anti-foul. A good matte black would work. That said I've not seen it in the flesh yet (out of the water) so haven't seen how grey it looks dry.
