Aerial receiver wire
« on: September 24, 2016, 10:15:19 pm »

I have a radio receiver as does everyone else I guess.

But the question is this.

There is a wire that I assume is the radio receiver  aerial. as the last few inches have been bared.

Do I need to connect this to part of the superstructure or make it visible to receive a good signal ?

Or just leave it inside  the hull. ?
Will there be enough signal received  that way ?

If it is a 2.4GHz set, the last inch is not bared, it has just had the outer shielding removed which makes it (usually) a different colour, and is the actual aerial.  Just let it stand unconnected to anything except the radio by the rest of the lead.
If it is some other type of set 27 or 40 MHz, it should not be bare - the overall length is determined by the manufacturer and should be stuck o as closely as possible.

A lot of 2.4ghz users, will tell you to put that bared section up as high as you can get it for good reception.
Mine is just laying in the hull and is good for the 150mtrs across our lake, on a Flysky system.

The Spektrum RX's have 2 short antennae, about 3" long.  The INSTRUCTION MANUAL says to mount the RX so one antenna is horizontal and one is vertical.  That's how all of mine are installed, with the antennae held in place with a bit of blue tape.  I have never had a problem with reception.  And BTW, I install RX's and ESC's on a spot of Velcro, which makes it easy to remove them if necessary, and provides a little vibration damping.
