Wheel radio, and sail boats.
« on: October 18, 2016, 08:24:58 pm »

I have acquired a few yachts, to get me started in boating. Most came ARTR.

I have loads of 2.4 wheel radios, and thinking about using them in the boats, now most people I've seen are using stick radios on yachts. But a combination of sticks and wheel on powered craft. Is it personal preference, or are wheels not a good idea with sails?

I can happily use wheel or stick, but seems a shame to buy more sticks, when I have all these sat around.

The wheel is ok for the rudder, but you will find that using the trigger to control a sailwinch of the drum or arm type, will prove very difficult over a session.

Maybe take them out of their cases and "repackage" them to be more boat friendly?

I'm redoing a 6 channel to be dedicated to my schooner model

Stick tx every time for a yacht.
Using the left stick for sail control
with a ratchet up and down allows you to trim
the sails and they will stay in that position
Until the stick is moved.
The trigger throttle needs to be held against
the spring all the time you are sailing.
With the ratchet and a self centering rudder
It is possible to sail hands off if the yacht is set up
correctly.

Surprising what can be done with "quote, highlight, copy, paste" and Notepad.
Holding a trigger (or a centerng stick) in one place for an extended time becomes like work.
