 :o  :o  :o

Same reason as the Blonde thread.

1. Martin is the boss. O0 O0
2. Martin hates Blonde and Pirate Jokes.  <:( <:(
3. Where will it end, Blonde and Pirate jokes could go on forever. O0 O0 Otherwise we would be walking the plank  <*< <*<

Good while it lasted. :-)) :-))

Martin,

Are You a Communist or a Dictator?

In a Democracy, the Membership decides, by not posting anymore.

In a Communist Society, the Dictator decides.

Food for thought.

Um, hate to tell you, but this is not a democracy. Martin OWNS MBM.

But dictator isn't really the right label ... think more along the lines of god.

IMO Martin has always been fair and just, as the original poster of the Pirate thread has not made a complaint the action taken isn't an unfair one but as he says it's time to move on with a different line of humour :-))

Martin,

Are You a Communist or a Dictator?

Maybe a bit of both, therefore he would be a Commutator (well, he does keep the current flowing) {-) {-) {-)

.....ok, I'll go away. :-X

Ray.

I move that we re-open the pirate thread two weeks before Talk Like a Pirate Day (19 Sept) -- if this is a democracy and we follow Robert's Rules of Order -- is there a second?

Otherwise,

I humbly beseech the wise, beneficent Lord who grants we pond scum sailors  the privilege of entertaining ourselves with the coarse humour of the masses to re-open ....

And thumbs up to Capt Podge for his electrical humour! :-))

If you read the Forum rules, a link to which was contained in your Welcome Message when you were accepted to Mayhem, you will note that it is clearly stated that the decisions of Martin and the moderators are final. Decisions are not taken lightly, and are made in the best interests of what is, essentially, a family forum.

I am not familiar with the circumstances leading to the locking of the topic in question, but I am confident that the decision was made with the best intentions, in accordance with the guide lines of Mayhem, and has my unqualified support.

Folks...

The following is an extract from our MBM stats home page today.......

477,987 Posts in 35,105 Topics by 6,822 Members

When we consider these numbers...we must also understand the enormity of decision making needed by our WEB host owner [
[despite
his choice of coloured shirts ]

I don't always agree with his decisions, but he still get my vote as  :-))....and not necessarily seen as  :police:

Martin - thumbs up from me!

It wasn't that long ago that the forum experienced technical problems with server capability etc and an upgrade was required to keep the forum and it's history online.

If I owned the forum I would have reviewed the core reason for its existence and pruned some of the unnecessary areas that consume server storage and that also use significant server traffic.

In summary I would have deleted the humour section completely as part of a housekeeping/streamlining exercise to free up its storage space and reduce server traffic/ demands which are not unlimited.

I accept one man's meat is another man's poison but personally I find it frustrating looking for boat related posts that I am interested in amongst all the fog.

If I wanted to be bombarded by jokes I would join a jokes forum! Call me picky but when I access a model boat forum I want to see model boat related posts!

An explanation of the decision before the queries would have been nice. Manners cost nothing.

Living where I live, with the GFW and possibly jail for anyone who starts internet rumors (if the message is unfavorable to guess who), where self censorship is the norm.
I would be happy with Martin for President.

I did enjoy the pirate thread, but it was beginning to recycle its content.
The blonde thread had jumped the shark when it started re-framing old Irish jokes.
And as pointed out, the threads are still there for people to view and enjoy.
