Just a link to Smith motors
« on: December 04, 2016, 08:49:23 pm »

Hi all,

Found this whilst researching thought it might come in useful.
There is no mention of rpm or other ratings.

Smith Motors 12-24v single or duel shaft
Bosch motors 12-24 single/duel shaft

Hi Batfish , they are really good motors, I have been using them for over 30 years in model tugs up to 48" in length and they will direct drive a 4" prop with no problem and a current draw of less than 5 amps on full load.
Smiths used to do a 12 volt motor with an 8 MM shaft and slightly larger casing and these seemed more powerful than the 6mm shaft ones,it is also possible to remove the triangular mounting plate.

Nemesis,

They do blower motors to.
Also would this be the one you refer to??

http://www.thhs.co.uk/products/general-parts/motors/single-shafted-motors/8mm-(516)-shaft-24v/

I'd like to know the wattage on these motors.
I looked at Astra blower motors like ministeve Svitzer powerful
I found two versions Delphi or the other made in Vietnam.

Does anyone know the rpm and wattage of these motors??

Wow! I didnt realise you could still get these.I have been using them for a good 35 years, still have them in my latest build,of HMS RAMILLIES.
There are four in my model, and she is 6 feet 6 inches long, and they push her along at well over scale speed,if needed to get out of trouble.
We used to go along to a scrap yard, take them out of the wrecked cars, and pay about 2 pounds for them. Then the scrapyard started taking them out and put the price up to 3 pounds 50p.They then got wise to the fact that modellers were wanting them and they shot up to 8 pounds, which was a lot,and so we stopped buying them.
Still a lot cheaper than those advertised at 49 pounds here!
Great motors though.

Hopefully it will add more options to motor supplies.
