Caldercraft North Light
« on: January 12, 2017, 06:22:15 pm »

Hi everyone,
My first post on this forum! Just starting the North Light model having done Artesina Latina kits previously. I notice that the GRP hull is supplied with extra material above the line of the top of the bulwarks; nowhere in the instructions does it talk about cutting this down to the correct height although the drawings clearly shows this must be the case. So assuming I have to do that, what's the best way to trim it down in height?

Hi TVM

It's great to have you on board! There's a huge quantity of knowledge and advice stowed in the hold.  O0

There are quite a number of people on the forum who have built Northlight. From your description, it would appear that the current hull differs a bit from earlier examples. If you can manage a picture, it will probably make it easier to advise. (There is a section on how to achieve this - sizing is important. I use Photobucket but I'm not sure I can recommend it - it can be a bit of a pain sometimes!)

Regards,
Mike

Welcome TVM.
If your photos are too large, I recommend this for re-sizing. Very easy to use and can also be used for multiple photos.

So on the inside of the hull above deck level, you see the unfinished (i.e. no smooth gelcoat finish), what do people do to get a better finish? I'd thought of a thin layer of filler then sanded?

Thanks

Thanks Mike, I didn't add a picture, I meant the rougher surface is seen on the inside, how do people fix that?

Hi qkingston,

I used P38 car filler for that job on my Caldercraft Milford Star...
