Seaplane Tender MM1391 plan
« on: January 23, 2017, 02:26:37 pm »

Has any member built this model sea plane tender from the MM1391 plan?

What I would like to know is the overall length of the Model
I note that some plans show 3 windows on cabin, the MM1391 plan version has 4 windows
Thanks anyone.

Jim,  this model version is almost identical and I too saw this thread with Neil's boat as I was  searching earlier .

This is the three window version and I believe it is about 37" long (950mm).
What I would like to know is how long is the 4 window version of the plan I mentioned MM1391

I suppose it must be something slightly longer.
I'm going to attempt to make one or the other this season,  just got to make a choice and buy the plan

Thanks..

The four window version is a MkIA and the length is given as 41˝ ft

The 3 window version is referred to as a 200 class Seaplane Tender  and the given length is 37˝ ft.

hi, N,

I do know that neil did make the original boat from plank on frame from the frames/keel/cabin that a man called Steve from a company called Model Boat Bits supplied him, but he then made moulds from the hull and cabin he made.

He gave Steve the moulds to do with what he wanted after he had made the grp mouldings for the above boat for himself. so if you don't fancy building a P O F hull, Steve has moulds to produce the 37.5" hull and superstructure to save both time and space inside.

According to the record here: http://www.airsearescue441.com/ the boat was 41.5 feet long so at 1/12 scale the model will be 41.5 inches long (105.5cm)

I think that just about answers my question about this plan,
I might just choose the shorter length model plan now at 37.5"

I do have a Range safety Launch at 43" long and it gets a bit a heavy and unmanageable.
Thanks to all

ST 206 is a 37 footer.  Some pics of her last voyage in 2010 below.

Are you aware of the series of publications "The history of ROYAL AIR FORCE MARINE CRAFT 1918 - 1986" ?
Author G D Pilborough MIRT.
Appendix 1b covers the 200 class and contains a copy of Air Ministry drawing E6/515, general arrangement  for the 37'6'' RAF GENERAL SERVICE LAUNCH.
Long out of print, but isbn no O 9510266 3 1. Pub Canimpex Publishing 1986, your local library should be able to obtain a copy for you.
My copies are subscription no 87 of 100. So precious that I'm afraid I will not loan them out.
However my understanding of copyright law is that if you make a copy for your own use that is legal, so should you travel to Yorkshire you will be welcome to use my copier.
Good luck with the project, I am waiting for a reply about the moulded hull and deck.
Cheers
Jim :-))

I did a foam build version based on Colin Bishops photos back in Model Boats Mag July 2014.
Cracking little model, goes really well, If you can't find the article and you think it may help, PM me.

I was looking for something else and came across this.  An unusual angle showing what's going on in the rear part of the boat.

Are you sure your dad was in a seaplane tender?
Most of them did eat it says on the tin and tended
Sunderland squadrons. Very few were fitted with
Radio, hence the dearth of aerials on the mast.

Just spoken to a ST 206 builder
Who assured me that some were used
for fire and rescue during WW2.
It would have been quite hairy in one of
those out in the North Sea even without
Mr Hitler's boys gatecrashing the party.

Yes, I think he said they had both 37' 6" and 41' versions. If the one shown above was the one rebuilt at Marchwood, we got shown around it about 15 years ago, before it was finished.
