Hi I am looking for some suggestions on my next kit. I cant do scratch build as don't have equipment.
Looking for a wooden boat, kit form, typically power boat style which can finish up as varnished.
Am just completing an Aeronaut Queen, so don't typically want a cruiser style boat, cant see anything in Aeronaut I like.
Multi hull is fine, twin hull, catamaran, anything considered
Any suggestions would be helpful.

I am in the middle of building Miss Severn from Legend .  Been on hold for over a year now for reasons unconnected with modelling, but it's a comprehensive kit and the materials and fittings are high quality.  It's not a kit for the beginner but some modest experience should see you OK.  The postage from the States is a bit eye-watering but if you want a Legend kit it is unavoidable.  If you do decide to go that way drop me a PM and I will give you a few more details and suggestions.

Hi KOI may I ask you a question - you say you wont consider scratch building - due to the fact you aint got the tools to do it -

May I ask what tools you used to build your last model with?  you will use the same tools to scratch build a model boat as you would on your last kit.

There are some really lovely plans available - very easy to build - very easy to follow on a few websites/magazines etc.  On some builds, when using balsa wood or light ply you only need a strong Stanley knife/similar craft knife to cut the materials.    One thing about scratch building - if you so desire - you can build it bit by bit/week by week/when you can afford the bits.   You don't have to fork out your money in one lump sum.

I must say I am not knocking kits as there are some lovely kits about - I am just trying to bring out your confidence to add another string to your bow.

Have a look in the master class build at the Swordsman and that will give you some idea of some of the easy builds around.

John, understand question, but trying to build a few kits before doing a scratch build. Have built a lot of cars over the years, some quite expensive, top end carpet racers and tourers. Can quite often get away with mistakes as usually just take them apart and start again. Scratch build will probably do after this one
