Look forward to that.  Welcome to Mayhem Waz.  We love pictures on here and don't see many paddlers.

Cheers,

When I can work out how to upload pictures I will. It's my first attempt at boat building/finishing so I fear that some of the methods use may be a bit over the top however they work.

The engine had been mounted, steam reversing valve has been made, as two out of three servos fitted, just the boiler to be clad and mounted.

Well a bit of background on the boat,

The boat was purchased as part of a collection between myself and another member of my local model engineering club, from the lot I still have the paddle steamer which i am finishing off and also a 1/32 scale britannia Royal sailing yacht, which just needs sails making, the fate of which is undecided.

The paddle steamer is a widened and lengthened but based upon the wilton castle plans, however its got a home designed twin cylinder steam engine in the rear driving a set of metal paddle wheels.

I am fitting a tig welded gas fired boiler, along with a rudder mounted under the hull, and steam control valves. Once complete the boat will require 3 channels, One for steering, once for the direction control valve and the final one to control the steam throttle.

I am a fan of paddlers, having two, Glen Usk & Duke of Devonshire Both scale & steam driven(oscillators) . All to my own designs.
I am glad to see you have plenty of draft, as that looks like a lot of weight aft. Balanced by the boiler mid ships, good.

Well today I thought I'd see how it sits in the water, and after raiding the workshop for metal to weigh it down it was off to the bath to float test, with the boiler full and everything fitted only the bottom 1/8" of the paddles were in the water so wight was added until happy with the weight. A total of 5.6kg was added. Now to order the lead shot and make the ballast weights.

What are the big squarish bits of brass to the left and right of the crankshaft?

They are reduction gearboxes to reduce the speed down for the paddle wheels as there is no flywheels to aid slow running of the engine so the engine is run a bit faster and then the output speed reduced through the gear boxes
