« on: February 07, 2017, 03:34:45 pm »

Hi all, I have a Graupener Wesser fire boat on the bridge/deck where the boat controls are mounted there is supposed to be a curved wind shield that is obviously missing. Cannot seem to locate one on any of the sites. Any ideas please guys  Thank you

what about using some clear plastic sheet, available most model stores, as you can buy coloured plastic sheet, you can but clear or even tinted sheet too.

Yes, use clear plastic sheet. I doubt if it would have been tinted as that would affect the colour of navigational aids seen at night.

If you are lucky with the curvature of the base you might get away with a straightforward strip. Otherwise you will need to make a paper template by placing paper against the front of where the screen goes and drawing round the bottom to get the correct shape.

When you have got it correct, use Canopy Glue which dries clear and doesn't react with the plastic to secure it in place. Just use a fine paintbrush to apply it to the inside of the base and the uprights and secure the plastic in place with something while the glue sets. Don't use superglue or poly glue.

I have just had to make a similar windscreen for my fishery cruiser, see photos below. In my case each frame was made separately using Plastruct H extrusion (v. expensive!) and each pane had to be made and slid in separately. A very fiddly job, made worse as the screen base curves in two dimensions!

Your able to use any clear plastic for a windshield

Bending the plastic can be done using a hot air gun
However keep the gun moving from side to side and NOT still
As the plastic warms up it is very easy to bend.

Try with a scrap peice first

Always check packaging for thin clear plastic that can be useful.
