Brushless motor equivelant
« on: February 10, 2017, 05:03:51 pm »

All my model boats have brushed motors varying from 400 speed to 800 size mostly I have been using 600 speed BB's etc
When I get to power the new model I'm preparing to build I would like to use Brushless motors (twin prop)
I have absolutely no knowledge of what would be a suitable equivelant to say 600  8.4v Graupners.
Would somebody suggest a size please.

Thanks

Hi.  The model is an RAF Launch 41 length with twin props.
I have not got as far as prop sizes at this time, but I will need to buy prop shafts and motors
fairly early on in construction.

Hi,

There are some good threads on here reference RAF launches, but I reckon 2 x Turnigy D3536/6 1250KV Brushless Outrunner Motors on 40mm props  might suffice or Turnigy D3536/9 910KV Brushless Outrunner Motors on 60amp escs if its fairly heavy.

Hi
The Turnigy 3639-1100 or D3648/4-1100kv, 3S 5800mah Lipo's, twin 60Amp ESCs and 2 blade 40mm props.

I agree with RNLI and Canabus. The 36mm diameter and 35mm or more long brushless outrunners are perfect for your project. A KV rating from 750 to 1100 would be just about right and you'll need to cover yourself with 2x60amp Speed controllers, just in case. In tests I have found these will run nicely at between 5 Amps and 15 Amps in a 48 inch model torpedo boat, but if you get stuck in weed or something that bit extra is good insurance. I have used the Hawk 60 amp on my twin setups, a bit pricey but good, there are some nice 50-60 Amp w/proof, forward/reverse by Turnigy out there and I have had no problems with the HK dedicated but chunky cheap boat Escs.
