Newbie with Classic/Modern Car projects
« on: February 10, 2017, 05:37:55 pm »

I just recently joined MBM forum and have been welcomed nicely.
But I thought I would also share with you guys my other hobbies.
I am very lucky my parents and wife are understanding and have similar interests with models and cars.

The list of projects so far includes
03 Alfa 156 GTA 3.2 V6 saloon which is pretty heavily mechanically modified. Looks standard which is great. Mine and ex family car.
02 Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Sportwagon family car which is like above and is pretty mechanically modified but a lot tamer than other Alfa. Wife's car.
03 Mini Cooper S. Same story and is a little fettled over standard. Wife's fun car.
1980s Ford Capri GL being prepared and built into race car for time attack.
03 Vauxhall Corsa which will be converted to GSXR1100 engine power.
2 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 2+2 Series 1 and 1.5
3 Riley RMs 2 are 40s RMA  and 50s RMA
And also got a couple others.

Too many but a good pick.
Hard to do during winter so this is where the modelling comes in handy.

I will post some pics as the cars vary from full resto cases to on the road running.

MMMMMM, XKE's  :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) 8) 8) 8) 8) More torque than a bulldozer and more style than Twiggy:O)

Have you the book on 9600 HP? Excellent read about the Jaguar press car and its restoration.

Given your interest in sleek machines, I would reccomend you build a Cruiser or a Destroyer.

9600hp I know well as my Dad is an avid follower of anything Jaguar and we my brother, mother and I used to be pack horses for Stoneleigh jaguar spars days and JEC events. Seen that E quite a few times. Flat floor aswell unlike ours. My dad has a book on hat very car aswell I think.

I like the idea of a cruiser/destroyer. Maybe after the others are finished :)

Yes an E has far more style than twiggy. Do like the lovely curvaceous body of an old Jaguar. Think blues brothers film has twiggy against a series 3 V12 filling up with fuel haha

Just returned from placing a deposit on my/a "Gentleman's Carriage". This will sit alongside my roughty toughty TR6 - eventually; giving passengers the choice of a rough or smooth passage. %%

Hey guys, sorry soo long in reply. I don't mind the hi-jacking of the thread at all, especially when i see lovely pictures and talk about cars :)

The E-Types are now both off the road unfortauntely, although the complete one we want to rebuild this winter as it has been sat unused for 18months which never does a car any favours. Problem with young fmaily and soo many other priorities. I loved using the E-Type to drive to work especially in the wet as it is a real hoot to drive.

The Mini Cooper S is my wifes car that i persuaded her to buy when we were still dating. So it made sense, but the disposal income has reduced alot with the family and purchase of other cars meant this has also sat unused for 14months now after it cracked a radiator. Probably doesn't help it was re-pullied and running alot more boost over standard, but it is getting ready for rebuild with more power and shiny bits as it is a really great handling cars down our back roads.

Unfortunately my Alfa 156 GTA failed on me rather spectacularly again with a rear spring seta collapsing, so i waiting on the bill to replace all dampers and shocks with adjustable KW V3 coilovers!

My wifes new car(old really) is a Alfa 156 2.4JTD Sportwagon(estate) and just had a massive service with some upgrades so it is the only car i have running as we speak today.

As for the other cars, haven't looked at them which is a real sin, but my excuse is time. :(
Plus i also took up an extra RC hobby with 1/16 tanks a month or two ago so i have plenty to keep me busy on late evenings with the boats.
The only boat i am progressing at the moment is my outrigger with brushless setup and i am also building a scale WW2 scenery in our front garden as a playground for the tanks we have boughts. Got 7 tanks in 3 months!!!

I wish days were 30hrs long rather than 24!

Sorry to hear about trip in hospital, hope you recover quickly. I myself had surgery recently and it still taking a toll on me, which is somewhat limiting my garage activities :(

Nice, i do have a soft spot for XJ's
I had an X308 4.0 V8 last year which i bought to use the V8 out of in my Capri, but have now sold.
My father has an X300 3.2 straight six, but it is another project and a horrible Jaguar electric issue which prevents it starting intermittently. Drove me mad, so i ignoring that car at mo.

For me the only Jag that could do with the family is an XF Sportbrake, but i spent all my money on various hobbies so no chance of affording one haha

My Alfa GTA v6 just failed its rear suspension whilst mid corner at the legal speed limit, the rear spring seat let go and therefore made the car very unstable. Lucky no one hurt and the car was pulled to a standstill quickly. My fix is to replace all suspension dampers with new, so i have got some KW stainless coilovers being built for me as we speak.

My wifes family Alfa estate has just come back from a major service and has 150k+ mile son the clock and running super strong after remap and alot of new parts. Still looks like a shed, but can out run a Civic Type R even towing a small trailer(don't ask! But i bet he felt bad and sold it soon after haha)

Only just realised this..have you any photo's ???...XK120? :o

I have one of those...A Burago 1/24 scale FHC in Cream  :D photo to follow, think my camera is in the XJ, hope it is...!

Love that engine..straight six, whatever the capacity (CC) I'd like a 1/4 scale model of it, wonder if anyone makes one? can't fit a real one in the house, I really want a MK 2 Jaguar, in my dreams I think, any size engine would do, a 3.8 prefferably but I'm not fussed, a 2.4 would be OK! O0 8)

JaB.

P.S. the XJ is not back yet, must be busy at the garage.

A TR6 eh? my friend had one from new, 1971... 150bhp...caused no end of bother! he rebuilt it eventually, I lost touch with him years ago, he discovered girls {-)

Obviously not the right girls......
My wife is a petrol head like me, hence why she didn't mind soo much modifying the Cooper S and the family wagon. She knows i wouldn't be me without the cars and toys lol

Will you are very lucky to have a girl who likes cars, mine just watches football, she is a Liverpool fan O0 %%

My son (34) is a Man Utd follower...can you imagine the fights - arguments and nasty comments about each others team %) {-)

I stay at my computer desk in the hallway >>:-( out of the way!!!

Still no camera or JAG...maybe later today...
it's worth the wait though.

Hope you can post some photo's?  what colour are the E-Types?

Had a ride in 2 'E's back in the 60's, a Primrose yellow one and a British Racing Green 4.2, yellow one was an early 3.8 ...sheesh... acceleration from standing :o :o :o

Pictures to follow. One of the E-Types will be British Racing Green when finished and is a 67 2+2 4.2 and the other which was on the road until recently a Red (maroon) 68 2+2 4.2.
They great fun to drive and the fact they have no headrests makes it feel faster than they are. But we did get 0-60mph on a timed run at 5.97seconds with 2 occupants which is not bad for an old girl.
When I have taken people out in the red car everyone has always commented that they did not expect the car to be as quick due to its age :)
Jaguars straight 6 is a lovely engine. They use to use versions of it in some military tracked vehicles which suggests it has alot of torque and pretty solid
