AEROKIT RNLI SOLENT MKII
« on: March 03, 2017, 11:01:10 am »

Hello, I hope someone can help me, I purchased a set of drawings from Ebay some months ago and although the plan and side elevations and  instructions are copies from Aerokit the other drawings of bulkheads etc are not, I am currently in build and clearly too many discrepancies on the marked up drawings, hence I am looking to buy a kit unbuilt (just missed one on Ebay very recently) or the copies of "orginal" Aerokit detailed drawings. I have been in touch with Daryl and Sandra of Lesro who hold the "copyrights" but so far unable to find the drawings.

Hi Barry

I know the problem I also purchased drawings from e-bay and found that the bulkhead drawings were very approximate to say the least, I did carry on and with a fair bit of luck  I have just completed the build.
I found that by folding the templates when cut out showed up the variance and then it was a matter of looking at the plans to decide which side was correct.
It took a fair bit of fiddling but ok. in the end, spend a little time and you should be ok.

Good luck.

Hello Deltaman, thank you for your reply, I went the next step and had all drwgs converted to CAD and then cnc parts, but clearly the dimensions and cut-outs for stringers on the bulkheads are not shown on any plan, I will continue but perhaps you can let me know how you built the tunnel as there is no ref to this. Best Regards Barry  I can send you my email address and maybe you can send me a photo please.

Aerokit original kits did not include details of the bulkheads!. What you probably have are someones attempts to copy the actual wood. I built another Aerokits model from similar information. The most difficult bit was not having details of the building jig.

Hello Gents,
Are we talking about the e-bay plans I got for about £19  As I got one from a friend who's father built it 30/40 years ago and in need of some TLC a few broken stanchions and other things not sure to keep it as original or up grade it with newer better parts and bits or just sell it as it is as not sure of its worth or when I'll get round to it got so many plans on the go for the next few years. by the way guys mine has numbers on the bulkheads so will that still be the same as yours or earlier or did there make a mark 1 or am I talking rubbish.
                              Regards Howard

Hello Barrie yes quite right but someone may have an accurate set of plans of all parts, hence if I can find a kit I can then copy correctly.

Hello Howard, within the set of drawings you bought for £19.50 should have included the copy of original AEROKIT plan and side elevation, plus a poor copy of the instructions in reddish print, these are the only reliable and accurate details, the rest are very poorly drawn out and frankly inaccurate even down to items 1,2 (two part keel ) both are wrong despite the AEROKIT copy plan being correct, as for your renovation I have renovated many models and also built many models including two Griffon 2400TD RM hovercrafts and two MGB 81 (last gunboat still at Portsmouth) so if you need any hep with restoration of your RNLI just drop me a line.
Best Regards

Hello Howard to my knowledge the MKI had sliding door to cabin, whereas MKII had hinged doors, with regard stanchions personally I would try to keep original, if that is not possible then you may have to opt for alternative, albeit you may come across a real specialist RNLI  enthusiast that will mention your new stanchions are not as originally fitted, btw both models I mentioned earlier were scratch built from many photo's, always a challenge.
Best Regards

Thank you Jim for your reply but as I have spent some considerable money on the cad work and the initial two kits which are cnc I intend to resurrect this model to as near the original kit as possible in order to sell as a wooden kit with agreement I already from Lesro Models.

Hello Howard, I am not sure if your models stanchions are correct as supplied, but sure someone out there will know, for me I would fit as near to the actual lifeboat as possible as to modernise this model will not reflect the actual boat.
