a nice walk in the sun.
« on: March 15, 2017, 01:16:24 pm »

it was so nice a spring day I caught the ferry to Fleetwood and a quick tram tip to the docks. I had heard that there was a modern lifeboat in the docks so thought I'd take some photos of it.
It's a Tyne class like both Cromer and Fleetwood had, but presume a fleet reserve boat as she has no station on the stern.

I took some photos of both her and Fleetwood's old boat that is being very slowly "restored", for want of a better word.

Took some photos of her as well, and a couple of the "old" and "new" together.

Does anyone know why the lifeboat is tucked away in a corner and not still in the reserve fleet.

Jim.

and finally it was a bus ride along the promenade to the model boat lake to see if the continued repairs were going well. and yippee!!!, the pump was working and the lake filling up.

Soon there'll be models sailing again.

It was a grand "walk".......well more a ferry tram and bus journey, but lovely now that spring is on the way.

I had to look through them all again, as I never noticed that........WOW!!!........ wish I'd seen that but there were a few flashy yachts sailing out this morning. Probably one of those that owned it, as I can't see it being a fisherman's lol.

Nice photos there Jim. Looks like there is a lot of work to do on the old Fleetwood Lifeboat, for sure. I believe the Tyne 47-026 is the old St Davids Lifeboat.

The Tyne's probably being stored there as a local relief boat, so it can quickly be sent to anywhere in the north west that needs it. There's a Mersey on the quay at Ramsgate for the same purpose.

Is the Tyne sold out of service?
Too many old lifeboats end up in the hands
of someone with a dream but not the
money to carry the dream to fruition.
I have been involved in the rebuild of
a Watson beach boat Charles Dibden
as a cruising home and we stripped her
to the frames and went from there.
What is the old girl in your photos Jim?
Most of the fastenings will be corroded
And need replacing.

the watson is the Ann Leitita Russell and the Tyne is still relief fleet and awaiting a deployment, However the only Tyne in the North West is due to be replaced this month with a Shannon, leaving only the one? IIRC in Isle of Man in the region.

Very few Tynes left in service at all now :(

hi ned , as spongie says its the old Fleetwood boat Ann Letitia Russell and is going to be a static undercover  display boat only....she'll never be waterbound again, and is hopefully eventually go as a display on the promenade close to where she was originally housed with a small museum around her in a purposebuilt building.

the reworked kit I got from Dave Metcalf last summer which is a joy to work on.

Yes, they are a lovely model as I have seen one a friend has got...........didn't build it himself but it is a lovely model.

It seems the restoration of the real one has come to a halt at the moment, sadly don't know why but it won't help it being out in the open without covering over it.
