Hello,

I was toying with the idea of having a go at this kit  - anyone done this and does anyone have any comments?

I'm not looking for a shelf queen , I'm looking for a hard working boat that can take a bit of use and be very practical. Also must go together well and be easy to make

Comments much appreciated also any other similar suggestions

  814 mm long ,weight sailing 5Kg with the Puffin plant suggested she must be a right goer. Not going to be light on grunt !

Ron Dean always use to bring this boat to the Cheddar Model Club events in the 90's, was equipped with a Cheddar Puffin plant, if remember correctly he use to say fibreglass hull and fibreglass deck with a bit of planking over the deck.
Called it the company hack !!!!!

That's what I want, two-three weeks to build and sail for many years after.

I have nice to look at models, just want something to play with and enjoy and not take seriously.

What is the kit quality like these days, do they go together well?

Hi, did anyone get one of these and have they started the build? if so could they post on here I would really like to see how its going as I am thinking about trying a steam launch and this looks like a good place to start.

Would the Cheddar Pintail work in this boat?

Hi!
I haven't build one but a friend of mine did (I don't have pictures, I'm afraid) and It's rather not a Kit for a beginner. In fact this is kind of a semi-kit and you would need to buy wood for the interior construction (there are only cardboard templates!).
The Pintail engine would probably be possible but might be a bit short of power. I thing Deans suggest the Puffinfor (which is still available at Stuart Models) and that engine is more powerful than the pintail was. Or you could check  http://www.clevedonsteam.co.uk/     for an alternative plant. Jerry who runs the business is very helpful. If it is your first model, I would go for a Kit from Krick: Easy to build and they look quite nice. I just checked Deans website: It looks like there are two different Victoria & Albert versions available:

(a) A set of glass fibre moulding for the modeller wishing to construct his own prototype based on our hull.
 (b) A set of mouldings as above, plus all the parts to construct the model as a kit, including the deck planking in mahogany & obeche to plank onto the glass fibre sub deck.
