RNLI Shannon class drawings
« on: March 20, 2017, 08:21:18 pm »

Hi, I purchased a Models By Design semi-kit for the new Shannon class lifeboat in November, unfortunately the RNLI have stopped supplying the GA drawings and I have therefor been unable to purchase a full set.  Does anyone have a copy of the the following drawing please?

997030  Shannon - External General Arr

Without this drawing to work to I fear that the semi-kit will probably remain in the attic forever.  :((

Kind regards,
 Alan

Mayhem Member "Canterbury Coxswain" willingly provides a DVD that has a huge set of photos of a Shannon lifeboat and I imagine he has all the information you need to complete your model.  You can follow his scratch build of a Shannon..   http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,54069.0.html

Send him a Private Message; Kim is a great guy who is delighted to hear from fellow enthusiasts.

Via email to Mayhem...

Perhaps I'm just not used to the website but it seems to me what ever
drawings were on the site have been taken down.
My plan is to build a model from scratch, including the waterjets.
Can you help me thrash around to find the right link for physical drawings?

Regards
Malcolm

RNLI Heritage have sent me Shannon drawings.
I'm impressed.

Thank you so much to ModelBoat Mayhem.
This has been a great help.
Now the tough bit starts.....planning the scratch build.

That was quick, did they send hard or soft copies?

Yes, it was quick....obviously not a Government operation! The drawings are PDF.
Port/starboard /bow/stern and GA.
I could have used cross sections but that is not an issue as I will create a fibre glass hull mould, starting with a male styrofoam plug, in doing so will be able to interpret the drawing to adequately develop the hull form.

This might help you; take a look at Reply #33 in this thread. Juergen has posted an image of a set of Hull Lines he drew up, which you could enlarge and print out.

Thank you Charlie.
No holding me back now.
I can quarantine in the garage making the fibre glass plug.
