1964? Wow I did not know the Cortina started out that long ago. Lovely cars by the way. I love Mk 3 Cortinas as my Dad hade several in the eighties.

You rarely see one anywhere these days, the rust worms were so hungry in Cortinas were'nt they  :((

The MK1 Cortina came out in 1962 and yes like so many Fords they did suffer badly from "tin worm"  O0  I was lucky to find this one, has only had one strut top replaced in it's life and is rock solid every where....The Anglia had never been welded when I bought her and has only had one half floor pan 5 years ago.

The first Mk1 was 1962 & went through to 66. I had an early 63 588KOO almost certainly an ex factory car as it is a Dagenham registration number.
Had a Mk2 when I was buying & selling & a 77 Mk4 2.3GL  V6 as a company car, that was lethal, span it more than once.

Eek. I did that with a Slkoda Favorit that I owned. The first time I nearly killed me and my passenger, while the second time had me end up in the right direction as I stopped too quickly when I noticed that I was going the wrong way!

Crikey, so the Cortinas was designed in the fifties then. Interesting topic all round.

Your Ford Anglia looks stunning - you can be justifiably proud of that one.

My first car was a Triumph 1300 TC. I would love to have kept it going but a group of scum stole it overnight and wrote it off on a roundabout - if I ever get the chance (and money) I'll definitely go looking for another one.

Regards,

Ray.

Thanks Ray,

that's a sad end for your Triumph :((  I learnt and passed my test in a 67 Anglia estate back in 76 and always wanted to modify one 60's style. I found this one in '95 after looking for a good couple of years and just love it...hopefully you will will find another 1300 TC one day :-))

First car I remember my Dad having was a blue Cortina - an estate, but very similar to that one. It didn't so much as rust, as dissolve before your eyes. He never bought British again, and traded the remnants in for a Volvo Amazon.

mmmmmmmmm my Dad taught me to drive in his Ford Prefect untility :embarrassed:......[hand brush painted in BRG OLIVE paint].....[needed to hold it in second gear to stop it slipping out {-)]

Then when I finally attained my drivers licence [8 attempts]......the Prefect had been retired & replaced with a Ford Anglia .......beautiful vehicle ........

Was the bonnet was hinged from the front?, but it had a Laurie Oxenford chromed tappet cover & exhaust headers ......with the bonnet opened, I thought it was a racing car.....

Not that I have big feet  :embarrassed:
But the only time I was given a lift in a notchback Anglia I had to remove my shoes as my feet were wedged in the front seat well.  <:(

Love the anglia I had 3 in my youth the last being a super deluxe, into which I put a 1600 cortina engine and a 1200 gearbox, I had a lot of fun in that.
Nice to see that one being looked after.

Dad's last Mk3 Cortina was a beautiful copper coloured estate in 1992 that was almost in immaculate condition. The ownser were getting rid for some reason that I cannot recall as she ran well for the three years we had her until she dissolved. I always wish we had looked after her better, but we treated cars like disposable batteries and so got through a good few.

I've got a MG ZA Magnette which is currently under going restoration being soda blasted in the next few weeks ready for when I come back home. Love the shape of classic cars compared to the standard boxes on wheels you get these days.

So true. In some ways the Anglia is probably more striking a looker in the fifties than the KA was in the ninties.

Looking at the Magnette, it has looks of a Mk10 Jag and elements of Bristol in it. Nice ride Mr Launches  :-)) 8)
