Drumbeat of Devon
« on: April 05, 2017, 08:27:04 am »

Hi
I have purchased a built but unused modelslipway Drumbeat of Devon, which on closer inspection needs a lot of work and TLC to get her on the water.
Can any one out there help me with the original plans and build instructions, build reviews etc,or copies of.
I,ll be very happy to reimburse any costs incurred.
Also any recomemdations regarding motors  and batteries.
Thanks for your help
Clive

Hi. I built a MSW Drumbeat but unfortunately gave the plan and build book to her new owner. Might be able to help if you can say what problems you have?

I ran DoD on the MFA geared motors each on 6v SLAs. She wasnt the quickest with this set up and twin 9.6v nimh packs would have made her a bit quicker is not a little over scale speed.

Hi
Thanks for you offer of help, I have bought 2 DoD's from ebay which both looked reasonable in the photos however, upon receiving the purchase,s one was quite knocked about with quite a bit of detail knocked off and in a box, this one is on MFA geared motors 2.5-1.
The second seems to be a lot better in the detail stakes and has never been on the water, and has MFA belt drive motors which are brand new but 1 of which has had the alloy motor pulley substituted for a brass gear pulley, but the main issue is the prop shafts have been fitted very poorly, instead of having the shaft exposed to the A bracket, the brass tube has been butted up to the A brkts instead.
So all in all I have some quite major work to complete.
However I have been very fortunate  to obtain some back issues of Model Boats from 1994 that have a very detailed review and build of DoD.            Many thanks for you offer of help
Clive
PS I am unable to open the link to your photos.

Hi there

I got more or less the full instructions for DoD, If you still need it I can scan it this evening and provide a link to it.

Hi
Thank you very much for the photos of your DoD,certainly one of the best ones that I have seen.
The photos are going to be very helpful to me during the major refit that I shall be undertaking, hopefully I can achieve model to a similar standard as yours.
Your time and trouble has been most appreciated
Many thanks Clive

Thank you. Sadly I sold Drumbeat in a moment of madness, regret it now  <:(

I cut down the size of the horn as the kit provided one was too long. Also, Drumbeat only has a lifebelt on the front superstructure starboard size and not both port and starboard as shown in the kit build. Hopefully these will also help your rebuild.

Hi
Thank you for the additional photos and info, certainly will help with the refit.
I have had some more luck this week as I won a box of unused fittings for Drumbeat, however when the box arrived the were some additional bits and pieces in the box including various printed styrene parts , the Hiab sea crane kit,the large Rib mouldings the complete set of glazing and window frames, plus various pieces of plastic section.
All in all a very useful purchase.
When I make a start I shall start a photo log of the progress.
thanks again Clive
