Glynn Guest ''Lady Helen'' ferry
« on: April 16, 2017, 12:41:32 pm »

Way way back there was a Model Boats Special issue, and in it was a free plan and build article of Glynn's ferry ''Lady Helen'...

I've never seen another one of these (apart from mine) but someone, somewhere, must have built one, surely? Mine is coming along slowly but surely, thanks to a couple of friends, it's getting there.

Any photos or information would be greatly appreciated as usual.

Have to say Rich it's very nice but not one I've come across before, I did want to do a ferry next hmmmm  :} , but I'll leave you to have the only one of these, I've always wanted to do a ferry after seeing Ken's Sealink all those years ago so maybe something like that for me or I have been thinking of the IOW Wightlink ferry
have to say Glynn guest does have some nice very well laid out plans

I loved that ferry..I used to sail it by proxy a lot at various regattas, won loads of trophies with it.

I don't know what it was for me, but as a kid that ferry was the bee's knees even better than "The Bismarck" I wonder what happened to that ferry??

It was stolen from Ken's shed, along with his QE2 battleship and a RSL, along with the radios as well...never seen again.

He packed it in after that...

Ken must have been gutted  <:( people who do that sort of thing need castrating  <*<
I put money on it's still around somewhere and will turn up in the end when someone thinks the coast is clear, if they have been looked after they'd be worth getting back I'll keep my eye's and ears open

Actually I've been looking at your Lady Helen and it doesn't half resemble the Senlac that used to sail out of Newhaven in the 70's & 80's I know it's not the same ship as the Senlac was broken up in Turkey and the Lady Helen sunk off Wales but I wonder if they where built in the same shipyard as they do look similar

I think the Lady Helen that sunk off Wales was a much smaller and entirely different ship.

Glynn's designs are usually freelance ones based on original vessels and his Lady Helen may well have been based on Senlac, Horsa or Hengist in the old Sealink fleet.

Phil,

Richard Howard died on 18th March so there will no doubt be a lot of work to do on his estate. I know there were a number of loan models in the museum. It all rather depends on who was in charge of the museum at the time of Richard's death. If it was the park trustees, as is probably the case then I think you should write to the park management
admin@bealepark.org.uk
and ask them what the likely future of the museum is to be and if the collection is to be dispersed then you wish to exercise your right to reclaim your loan model. They probably haven't made a decision yet but in the meantime I would follow up your email with a letter as you don't want your boat sold off by accident in the event that they decide to dispose of the models.

Hello!
Is it possible to get hold of the plans somewhere,  and perhaps the build article?

The words ''as rare as hens teeth'' spring to mind, Hama. It took me a long time to find my set, I found them on eBay.
