A few weeks ago I bought the Jeep Rubicon body (1/10 scale from Axial) online. I wanted to build a static model just to have a model of the original. I bought the real Jeep in 1/1 scale from my father-in-law and I will get it today!!!
But I couldn't resist and bought a frame (Vaterra) for it.
The only chassis fitting the short body of the Jeep was the one from Vaterra. So I found one ready-to-run inclusive all RC parts at a local modelshop to a reasonable price.
It can be adapted to 4 different wheelbases. I choose to use the 29cm wheelbase. Its just a little bit too long but it looks ok. It took me around 6-8h to shorten the wheelbase and adapt the body to the frame. The body is made of a very strong plastic. The frame is made of iron and some plastic parts. I also had to relocate the steering servo. This because I use a 4000Ah battery instead of a LiPo. I also had to adapt the front and rear bumper with the help of some selfmade ABS parts.
Shortened frame and body.
Body sits on frame before adaptation.
And the first time in the sunshine and finished.
It runs very well and all kind of terrain. I wouldn't use it in muddy conditions as the electronical parts are not 100% waterproof.
After this first run I changed the tires and rims. The rims are black und the tires softer and they have more grip.
Its a lot of fun running it over different terrain and up and down steep gradients.
