Ill pop over one weekend for a sail .................Why is the Pond closed at Eirias Park...........or is it a rather sad case of weed like Llanfairfechan is............I was mortified to see LLanfair this morning.......blanket weed through the lake toatally unsailable...it has never been like that.............maybee far to many people throwing bread into it to feed the ducks and swans

You are always welcome Dave

Due to a sluice gate jamming, the Eirias park lake lost a lot of water during the hot weather and that allowed the weeds to flourish.  We are also having a problem managing bacteria levels.

The new habitat has attracted lots of birds and that attracts the public with big bags of bread. <*<

This is the first year at the restored lake and we are just learning how to manage it.   Dyofix has finally been permitted and we are buying weed cutting equipment to start culling the weed.

I can see us needing one of these !   ....  http://www.reedmanservices.co.uk/weedboats.shtml

We can recommend DYOFIX totally , we use the blue, with the pool  being near the river Mersey there's no chance of keeping the weed out, two years ago it was a weekly truck load taken out just to keep it anywhere near sailable, now it's an explosion of growth around May/June,  once that's cleared it's just a sack full per week . . .
You need to keep records as you add the treatment . . .We do a full charge every three months and a 5% top up monthly to compensate for rain & bleaching by sunlight .
Blocking the red band light from the bottom is only one food source , 'it' adapt's to consume anything organic  , so a quick scoop around to net any floating debris before it sinks is needed a coupla times a week , if you get a prevailing wind everything's usually blown into one corner making it easier . . .

I was there a month or so ago, and the old lake was dry, I'm surprised the council have refilled it, other than it looking much nicer, why have they bothered if the big lake is now refurbished I wonder? Big lake looks very nice, but the small lake has a very  nice feel to it :-))

The new council offices are now 3 years behind schedule and if they leave the old lake empty everyone will notice !

it is very helpful to have 2 lakes at the moment, we are still learning how to control weed growth at the big lake and it is taking time.

As of Monday 20th November 2017 Colwyn Bay Model Boat Club moved back to bigger lake at Llyn Eirias (the bigger lake in Eirias Park) after members worked very hard over past 5 to 6 weeks clearing weeds and here are some photos from the Sunday 19th at the big lake
