Pay n Pak scale hydro brushed to brushless
« on: May 24, 2017, 01:42:23 pm »

Hi, can I have some advice please.
I am building a 13th scale hydroplane as per the pay n pak plans. Is coming out at about 27" long in old money.
The plans show a 600 brushed can, with 12 cells.
I am looking to go brushless, has anyone any suggestions on what motor and bat pack I need. or has anyone built this that can give some advice.
Thanks

Hi KOI
The Speed 600 is rated at 7.2 volts 15000 rpm.
A few motors are the 28mm Hobbyking B28-57-17L (3S 18870 rpm 630 watts), the B28-57-15L (3S 21090 rpm 750 watts) both have 3.175mm shafts.
ESC Hobbyking Boat 50Amp with program card(part no. 9261000011).
If using a flex drive setup use a 4mm setup.
I modified the nose section to get a 3S 3300mah Lipo in.

Hi Canabus, that is a great help re motor. Thanks for also posting the pictures as I was struggling to understand one part, which is now clear from your photos. How are you finishing off the exterior?

Hi KOI
The Hobbyking strut/rudder unit is part no. HK-502B20 with 4mm Threaded driveshaft(62mm), 4mm drive dog (HK-518B20), 4mm Teflon drive washer(194000026-0), 4mm x 300mm flex drive shaft(HB510B30), 5mm inner shaft sleeve 310x5mm(194000028-0) and 6x300mm brass tube(HK-514B15) and turn fin set (194000016).
I had to add a small block of wood to the transom because of the flex drive length and to get the battery in the bow pass the motor.
I used the water cooled ESC because it is lower than the car ESC's I use.
Brass tubing thru the frames with 2.5mm silicon fuel tubing(OR005-00601) for the flexible connectors.

I also add lead weight in the front sponsons to get the CG forward as I move the battery backwards and forward a bit.

Can-a- bus
