Found - boat lost from car
« on: May 27, 2017, 10:09:16 pm »

The boat shown fell from a car passing through Godmanchester sometime in the last week. Does anybody recognise it or know the owner?

I'm sure that was for sale on ebay only a couple of weeks or so, ago.

You're not the first to ask that question!

The boat was found as is. The car was navigating a roundabout (circle for our US cousins). How it came out and why the car driver didn't notice is a mystery

Perhaps it was a failed sale and the owner was taking it to the tip along with a load of other stuff, and happened to be on top of the 'stuff'. You were the lucky finder.

If the owner cared for it like we do our models, we would make sure it was either in a box, or at least nestled in the boot/somewhere in the space where it could not move about.

It is a shame the roof didn't fall out as well, but if you cannot trace an owner then the roof would not be difficult to make.

Maybe it had already survived a journey on the roof but a roundabout was too much.  I was told some years ago of a chap leaving his helicopter on the roof of his car and driving off, he saw it fall from his rear view mirror, damage was considerable.

I reckon it is yours now, not much more you can do.

Is there any sign of road damage? If not then it may have been dumped by someone on foot or bike. If that were the case then the boat might have been stolen locally, and might explain why it has no roof. Local police could advise on that

The boat was seen to drop from the car by a shopkeeper. I do not have the boat. I was just asking if anybody knew it. Other speculation is superfluous.

Something melancholy about this, it was once someone's pride and joy!  I know you don't have the boat but could you suggest that it goes to a good home and not to Ebay or the tip.

What a shame - it looks like a nice old classic RAF style of launch - maybe the cabin top did fall off but the finder never thought to look to see it it has "bounced" into a hedge ( or similar)?.
