Hello! I am new here on this forum, so, be patient with me 
Well, I would like ask you for help, I am looking for building plans for RN River Class frigates. Ideally the plans should be with all necessary elements, like sectional views and side-view (for modelling a hull – for example available plans for HMS Spey don’t have sectional view/cuts).
I am planning build the frigate in 1/72 scale as a part for my corvette and u-boot fleet, but I didn’t find good plan.

Looks like the Australian River Class were modified Type 12 Rothesay frigates late 1950's
Not RN River Class.

Hi Ligamin,

River class were used by the Canadian Navy, the Free French Navy and the US Navy as well as the Australian Navy.

The USN drawings are downloadable on https://maritime.org/doc/plans/ about 2/3rd down the page but they do not have lines.

The River class were used also by the USN as the design for the Tacoma Class (PF3 USS Tacoma) and Floating Drydock do full sets of drawings for that.

There are likely to be variations from basic River hull but it would be worth investigating.

Looking through an old catalogue of David MacGregor plans - and listed under 20th Century British Warships - drawn by E.N. Wilson there are a set of drawings for HMS Spey 'River Class' Frigate.  The only problem now - is - if they are any good to you - and the other thing is - will they be available from the people who own the rights to these plans - I think its the SS Great Britain Trust?  - I may be wrong.

Based on the British Acheron class, a batch of three ships was ordered for the Commonwealth Naval Forces in 1909, followed later by a second batch of three. I think we are talking of the 8 WW2 RAN rivers like Diamantina which still exists.


I have the RAN modellers plans for Murchison in 1/100 scale which are about 1.2mb and will print out at that size. If you want 1/96 tell the print shop to print the plans at 104% if 1/72 at 139%.

Mudway has right, we are talking about RN/RCN/RAN River class frigates from WW2. As an example, the ship class is represented by last existing ship, HMAS Diamantina.
US navy adopted River class too, as Tacoma class, that’s true, but I am not sure what modifications of hull they made (instead of superstructure of course). I didn’t see Tacoma’s plans, so can’t compare.
Drawings of HMS Spey looks very good, but I am not sure if they are completed – for example I don’t have a sheet with side-view/cut drawings for making the hull. Those cuts are exactly on Australian plans above.

HMCS New Glasgow, about halfway down the list, was a River class frigate in the RCN.  Scale is 1/72nd.

Hi everybody,
 Well, I did success! Thanks to all of you.
I have a RN, RCN and RAN ships plans….  Much more than I expected.
If you looking for a RN plans, for HMS Spey please contact SS Great Britain Trust, they will send you a scanned sheet for a nice fee. Please note, that this plans needs to be re-scaled as you need.
Canadians River class is represented by Vanguard’s HMCS New Glasgow, a link where to buy is above in previous post. Plans are nice and printed to necessary scale (1/72 in my case).
And the last, for Australian ships, please write to Naval Historical Society of Australia, they have plans for modified River class (Bay class I think..). Those plans needs to be re-scaled too.
 
I didn’t try to get plans for Tacoma class, so I can’t compare them.
